On Wednesday morning, No. 6 seed Texas A&M dropped its first game in the 2026 SEC Tournament to No. 14 seed Auburn, 11-8.
Auburn struck first with the first of their five home runs, but A&M answered right back.
Doubles from Micaela Wark and Ariel Kowalewski in the bottom of the second gave the Maroon & White a 3-1 lead going into the third.
Sydney Lessentine threw 1.2 innings with two strikeouts, only walking one batter. Lessentine had a solid sophomore season despite not having her best performance on Wednesday.
In the regular season, she held a 14-4 record, had 97 total strikeouts and walked 26 batters.
The Aggies quickly gave up the lead after the second home run of the game from Ma'Nia Womack in the top of the second. Three more runs came home off a two-run triple from Kylie Shaw and an RBI single by Alyssa Hastings.
The Tigers went on to launch two more home runs, a two-run shot in the top of the third and another solo bomb in the fifth.
In the top of the fifth, Mya Perez responded with a two-run homer to cut the deficit to three.
The Aggies dug their claws in and fought for the comeback.
Paislie Allen hit her seventh home run of the year, followed by a single up the center from Wark that plated two more runs. The Maroon & White tied things up with the Tigers, 8-8.
Sophomore Kate Munnerlyn stepped in to pitch for the Aggies in the final three innings. Munnerlyn struggled to locate her changeup as she walked three batters, including the leadoff batter in the seventh.
With two on base, Ava Ratliff saw her opportunity and seized it. Ratliff sent the Tigers’ fifth homer of the game over the wall to take an 11-8 lead.
The Aggies failed to pull away in the bottom half of the inning, ending their SEC Tournament run. They will learn their NCAA Tournament fate on Selection Sunday at 6 p.m. CT on ESPN2.
