Jacksonville Jaguars select Albert Regis in the third round, 81st overall
On Friday, Albert Regis continued a trend of Texas A&M defensive tackles taken in the NFL Draft when he was selected in the third round by the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Taken with the 81st overall pick, Regis is the ninth A&M defensive tackle drafted since 2019.
The list includes Shemar Turner in 2025 (second round by Chicago); McKinnley Jackson in 2024 (third round by Cincinnati); DeMarvin Leal in 2022 (third round by Pittsburgh); Bobby Brown III in 2021 (fourth round by the Los Angeles Rams); Justin Madubuike in 2020 (third round by Baltimore) and Kingsley Keke (fifth round by Green Bay) and Daylon Mack (fifth round by Baltimore) in 2019.
Not to mention Tyler Onyedim by the Denver Broncos in the third round earlier this weekend.
Further, Regis will be NFL teammates with tight end Nate Boerkircher, who was a second-round selection by Jacksonville.
The 6-foot-1 Regis played last season at 317 pounds. But in training for the NFL Scouting Combine, he slimmed down to 295.
He raised eyebrows at the Combine in Indianapolis by running a 40-yard dash in 4.88 seconds. A month later, at Texas A&M’s Pro Day, Regis bench pressed 225 pounds 27 times.
A native of LaPorte, Regis arrived in College Station as a four-star prospect in 2021.
After a redshirt year, he quickly established himself as a steady and perhaps underrated performer in the defensive interior line.
He played in 11 games and made one start as a redshirt freshman. He posted 16 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and broke up a pass that year.
The next season, Regis had 15 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and posted his first career sack in a win over Arkansas.
In 2024, he moved into the starting lineup. Though overshadowed by NFL Draft picks Shemar Stewart, Nic Scourton and Shemar Turner, he was arguably the steadiest member of the front four.
He had 36 tackles, three tackles for loss, assisted on a sack vs. Missouri and broke up six passes.
Last season, he led all A&M defensive linemen with 49 tackles. That included three tackles for loss. He also posted sacks vs. Notre Dame and Florida and broke up three passes.
