Men’s Basketball
For the first time since 2002, Aggie men's basketball brought home the Lone Star Showdown trophy after Saturday’s matchup on the Longhorns’ court, defeating them 74-70.
After a back-and-forth first half, the Ags showed out in the second, starting with Marcus Hill’s steal on the Horns’ first possession. Rylan Griffen led the team with 17 points to help bring home that W while Texas was down the entire second half. They did manage to close the gap to only a four-point game, but it just wasn’t enough. You can see the Aggies return home to compete against Mississippi State tonight at 8 p.m. CT.
Women’s Basketball
On Sunday, Texas A&M women’s basketball fell to No. 4 Texas, 80-35. Looking for some positive in that negative, Janae Kent had 16 points to lead the team, and Ny'Ceara Pryor had four steals and became the sixth player in NCAA history to record 2,000 points, 500 assists and 400 steals in a career. The Ags are now 1-4 in SEC play, but that will change tomorrow night when they are welcomed back home to take on the No. 6 LSU Tigers at 8 p.m. CT.
Track & Field
Three school records were broken during the Corky Classic. Henry Zimmerman broke the men's weight throw all-time mark, while Lily Carlson rose to the top of women's pole vault on the opening day, and Peter Narumbe broke the 1,000m record on the final day.
Baseball
Infielder Chris Hacopian and outfielder Caden Sorrell were named Preseason All-Americans by D1Baseball. Hacopian was given second team as a designated hitter, while Sorrell earned a third-team honor as an outfielder.
