Softball America's Tara Henry dives into A&M's 'complete' resume
In her third season at Texas A&M, Trisha Ford's Aggies are a complete ball club, and they were rewarded with the No. 1 overall seed in the 2025 NCAA Tournament. During TexAgs Live on Monday, Tara Henry of Softball America offered her thoughts on the Ags ahead of the regional.
Key notes from Tara Henry interview
- I can't say enough about head coach Trisha Ford and what the Aggies have done this season. They have the resume. We have two bracketologists at Softball America. One had A&M at No. 1, and one had Oklahoma at No. 1. It was a tight one. The Aggies, with the amount of top-10 and top-25 wins they had, their SOS and RPI, it was a complete resume for the Aggies. It's an exciting time to be a part of that program. A&M got a fairly easy regional.
- I was there in Athens for the SEC Tournament. It was raining all morning and all afternoon on Saturday. It was going to be really tough to get that game in. The only way they could have was to potentially play on Sunday morning, which I don't think was an option. We were all chomping at the bit to see the Sooners take on the Aggies. It would have been an epic matchup. Hopefully, we will see it in the Women's College World Series.
- Ford runs a tight ship, but the players love her. She has a lot of structure in practice. Winning is fun. That comes from hard work. They have a blue-collar mentally, and they grind it out. Mac Barbara, the bat of Mya Perez, Koko Wooley's leadership as of late, and I can't say enough about the freshman KK Dement. Of course, Emiley Kennedy in the circle... They have a lot of pieces to a puzzle that give you enough to make a run for the title. They have taken on Ford's personality. They have a lot of swag and confidence. That comes from putting in the work.
- The Aggies jumped out to a massive lead over the Texas team that was ranked No. 1 in the country at one point. A&M is a gritty team. They fight. You can never count out the Aggies.
- The win over Texas was a flat-out statement. They didn't stop. I asked Ford why Kennedy threw two days in a row and why she stayed in. Ford said, "We will need this heading into regionals and supers. Kennedy will have to go back to back." She did that on purpose.
- It would have been interesting to see what would have happened in the game against Oklahoma. I think they would have seen a bullpen game. We don't know. Preparing Kennedy to throw back-to-back days... We will see if that happens in the regional. They do host a tough Liberty squad.
- What's most impressive to me about the Aggies is the diversity. They can hit the long ball, but there is speed mixed in there. They are not just doing it one way. It's constant pressure 1-9, and it's not the same pressure. That's what makes the Aggies so effective. It's a lineup that you can't really breathe when you are facing it.
- A lot of teams can play well at home when they sleep in their own bed. The Aggies have proven they can do it on the road. They will get to sleep at home in regionals and supers, but in Oklahoma City, that will be the next test. It's a very versatile team, a very durable team and a team that is super gritty. They flat out get it done.
- LSU has a tough road. They have Nebraska in their regional. Then, they would face Tennessee and Karlyn Pickens in a super.
- I think six SEC teams could be in OKC. Or more? Seven? We'll see. UCLA matches up with South Carolina. It’ll be Tennessee or LSU if the seeds hold. I will go with six SEC teams at the Women’s College World Series.
