A&M named SEC Tournament co-champs as weather cancels title game
Following a Friday beatdown of rival Texas in the SEC Tournament semifinals, No. 2 seed Texas A&M softball was slated to play regular-season champion Oklahoma in the 2025 SEC Tournament Championship Game on Saturday afternoon.
However, due to inclement weather in Athens, the title game has been canceled.
With A&M and Oklahoma declared co-champions, the Sooners will be awarded the league’s automatic bid to the 2025 NCAA Tournament.
Saturday’s rainout is deja vu for the Maroon & White, as the difference between Oklahoma and A&M in the regular-season standings was a half game. The Aggies played one fewer conference game than the Sooners because A&M’s April 7 contest vs. Georgia in Athens was also canceled due to weather.
A&M finished with a 16-7 conference record, while Oklahoma went 17-7 to win the league.
The Aggies will learn their heading and opponents in next week’s regional (and who will be headed to Aggieland) during the 2025 NCAA Tournament Selection Show.
The selection show will be broadcast on ESPN2 on Sunday, May 11, at 6 p.m. CT.
