Around Aggieland (3/28)
On Friday’s edition of TexAgs Live, Callie Garner took us Around Aggieland and provided updates on all things Texas A&M as the diamond sports are underway. Texas A&M football hosted Pro Day on Thursday, with a handful of athletes showing out.
Football
Texas A&M hosted Pro Day yesterday. Twelve Aggies participated and put up some great numbers. Shane Calhoun led the Aggies in most categories. He ran a 4.43 40-yard dash, jumped 39 inches in the vertical, and 11 inches in the broad jump, which would have been the best in all three categories out of any tight end in the NFL Combine.
Baseball
Texas A&M baseball defeated Houston Christian this week to move to 12-12 on the year, as they welcome Kentucky to Blue Bell Park this weekend for a three-game set, with the first pitch set for tonight at 6 p.m.
Interesting note about this weekend’s series, Michael Earley stated that outfielder Caden Sorrell is set to make his season debut for the Aggies at some point, as he has been out with a hamstring injury for the first 24 games this year.
Softball
Texas A&M softball run-ruled both of their opponents, Sam Houston and North Texas, this week, outscoring them 22-4 and combining for 28 hits over 11 innings.
They are staying in non-conference this weekend as they host a three-game series against LMU with the first pitch tonight at 6 p.m.
Track & Field
Senior Cooper Cawthra broke the 1500-meter school record on the opening day of the Raleigh Relays yesterday.
Also breaking records is sophomore Luca Santorum coming in right behind Cawthra to hold the No. 2 spot in the school history books.
Women’s Tennis
Facing Kentucky this weekend is the women’s tennis team. They are traveling to Lexington to take on the Wildcats today at 4 p.m. They will face the Tennessee Vols on Sunday at noon. They look to move to 10-1 in conference play before their final stretch of the regular season.
