Gaining confidence, fighting for validity against LSU

Notes from Jackie Sherrill interview

* Where you see a defense begin to be exposed is when you have to start playing backup players. Backup players are supposed to come in and help rest the starters, but now when you move them up to be starters, the backup’s backups have to play as well and that begins to hurt a team. The one thing that you have to give credit to is that the coaches have definitely instilled the thought that the game isn’t over until the clock hits zero. If you play every snap with that mindset, you’re going to be able to overcome some depth issues. In that thought, he would rather have a 4.8 player on the field that goes every snap rather than a 4.4 guy who only es hard one out of every three snaps.

* Somebody is giving the kids the confidence that they are going to win as long as they continue to fight. In a game, if you can answer everything that an opponent has thrown at you, chances are the outcome will be in your favor.

* He really enjoys watching the reactions on the sidelines of the players under the new coaching regime. Being able to see emotion on the field like when Ryan Swope scored the game winning touchdown against Ole Miss is a great thing. All of the players get so excited any time someone makes a play and that’s always good to see. Johnny Manziel is destined to have a great career at A&M, but you can’t say right now that he is going to be a first round NFL draft pick. He doesn’t think there is a more exciting playing through the first half of the season than Manziel.

* A&M has some games ahead of them that really count. If you didn’t know anything about either LSU or A&M, then you would be astonished at how close the stats are to each other. LSU will have the better defensive team, but the stat  and matchup that stands out to him is the rushing offense and rushing defense comparison on both sides of the ball. The teams are really close together when you analyze it, but if you were to take the starting 22 of LSU and the starting 22 from A&M, the players from LSU are going to be faster and much more highly recruited coming out of high school. Somewhere, that disadvantage has to be offset and this game will show that every snap must be played at full steam by the Aggies. The good thing about this game is that it is being played at Kyle Field, and there is a chance that this game could be the loudest that Kyle Field has ever been.

* If you watch LSU and study them, it’s clear that their quarterback can’t beat you by himself. If A&M can force Mettenberger to throw the football, they will have a much better chance of success against the Tigers. He has always thought that when you get into games that are really important, the quarterback who plays the best wins the game for his team.

* This game will give A&M the validity of what they have accomplished so far. A&M has grabbed the attention of all the coaches and players in the SEC, but a win on Saturday will validate what has been done so far to the entire nation.

"Gaining confidence, fighting for validity against LSU"?

Coach Sherrill, don't go soft on us now. We're not coming into this game with our hat in our hand. TEXAS A&M doesn't need "validation". It is hard wired Ito our DNA.

quote:
Stuart Smalley: I deserve good things, I am entitled to my share of happiness. I refuse to beat myself up. I am an attractive person. I am fun to be with.

LSU is coming to KYLE FIELD seeking validation. Always been that way. Always will.

Slim Boy-

We are the newcomers on the SEC block. We really havent beaten anybody yet, anybody that is a name. We have a lot of new things, we have an exciting QB, but if you are going to win in the SEC, if you are going to have people get off our ass for jumping from the big 12 to the SEC, then we need to validate what we are doing; we can get that validation with a win vs LSU. That is what the man is talking about.

Here is something else. Beat LSU and our former relatives in Austin will wet their collective panties: the focus of football fans in Texas will then be on US.

"It will be worth it when we win in December..."
