Sitting atop the Southeastern Conference, Texas A&M has an opportunity to reach uncharted waters, as two more wins would guarantee A&M a spot in the conference championship. Former tight end Max Wright speaks on the Aggies' business trip to Auburn.

Key notes from Max Wright interview

  • I got to talk to Theo Melin Öhrström over the week, and I think that anytime you have guys go down like Le'Veon Moss, you have to be able to distribute the ball and get other guys touches. To be able to throw the extra wrinkle in with the tight ends is hard for defenses to plan for.

  • Having a bye week and playing a team like New Mexico State gets some reps for Marcel Reed and lets the tight ends get some game-like action before the final two SEC games. They're setting themselves up nicely to finish the season off strong.

  • Tackling skills will be tested with our games against Auburn and Texas. At this point in the season, making progress with tackling is hard, but it needs to be more consistent if we want to be where we want to be.

  • If we can handle Auburn this weekend, then we put ourselves in position to play Texas and maybe even play for an SEC Championship game. I'm not worried about where we are at. I think everyone is going to be amped up about the playoff rankings until the end of the season, but all that matters at the end of the day is what we do these next two weeks.

  • Jordan-Hare is loud. Their home field environment is a great one. It can get in the heads of some players. Their fans can cause some disruption. They feed off of the energy there. We cannot look past this week. Auburn has been playing well all season. They may not have as many wins in the win column, but they remind me of a team we played on when we were 5-7, but of those seven, we were within one score. They are a good team looking to get over that hump. You have to come out firing with a team like that.

  • You have to go out and focus on your assignment and do what you can to the best of your ability. At the end of the day, I think we are the better team, and I do think that if we handle business as we should, we should win this football game. On the road in the SEC, problems can always occur, so you have to come out disciplined, not doing too much, and in control to set the tone early to win games on the road.

  • I feel good about this, but I am worried they won't come out hot against a team like Auburn. If you want to take the crowd out of it, you need to get off to a quick start.

  • I've got to be a part of some really good teams and win in my career at A&M. I don't think there can be any environment that can match what will be in Kyle Field if we come out and win that football game against Texas.

  • This has been a long-awaited matchup for both fanbases. We should break the attendance record. The environment will be unlike anything anyone has seen in a college football game. What's on the line and what's at stake will set it up as one of the coolest rivalry bootups ever in college football. There couldn't be a more picture-perfect stage for this game, and I expect both games to come out firing and for this to be one of the best games played of all time.
