SEC road swing takes Morrison's Aggies through Lexington & Knoxville
Another trip through SEC country is on deck for the Maroon & White.
Texas A&M volleyball will be on the road for its next three contests, and the first two games of the trek will be against No. 13 Kentucky and Tennessee this weekend.
The Aggies will face the Wildcats on Friday, Nov. 8, and then they’ll go up against the Volunteers on Sunday, Nov. 10.
A&M is looking to rebound after being swept by the Mississippi State Bulldogs at Reed Arena on Sunday. The Ags are 6-4 in conference play, as they seek to find some more consistency in the final stretch of the regular season.
“I think there’s some offensive things we can clean up,” head coach Jamie Morrison said. “There were some specifics of, ‘Hey, we’re gonna get in and check these things off the list, and make sure that we’re becoming a better team and learning from this.’”
One area that they seemingly have found consistency in is confernce road games, where they’re 3-1, including a pair of victories over ranked opponents.
When A&M faces Kentucky on Friday, they’ll be meeting the SEC’s second-place squad, as the Wildcats boast a 14-7 overall record with an 8-2 conference resume.
Surprisingly enough, Kentucky hasn’t been on its home floor against conference foes much this year. When the Wildcats host A&M, it’ll be just their fourth home match against an SEC opponent this season. So far, they’re 2-1 in such matchups in Lexington, their only loss coming to the Texas Longhorns.
“They’re good,” Morrison said. “Kentucky’s in the driver’s seat to win our conference again right now.”
On the other hand, Tennessee hasn’t had the season it had envisioned.
The Volunteers are 11-9 overall and 4-6 in SEC play, and they’re coming off a 3-0 loss to South Carolina.
However, similar to Kentucky, Tennessee has played well at home, but the Vols haven’t played a whole lot of SEC teams at home. They’re 6-2 overall and 2-1 against conference teams in Knoxville.
A&M will have its work cut out for them this weekend, as the team looks to finish the last six games out strong going into the NCAA Tournament next month.
“I do think as you get to the end of the season, you should be a little bit locked in into who you are,” Morrison said. “But there should be some fluidity in it.”
