Sherrill relives A&M's second-half surge to improve to 5-0 in SEC play

Texas A&M quarterback Marcel Reed provided a spark when Mike Elko & Co. needed it, leading the charge in taking down LSU at Kyle Field. Legendary coach Jackie Sherrill joined Monday's edition of TexAgs Live to recap the Aggies' seventh straight victory.

Key notes from Jackie Sherrill interview

  • What a game to watch. What a great game to have recruits at.

  • Kyle Field has become the No. 1 stadium in the country. People talk about Death Valley at LSU and Clemson, and Alabama, but the crowd at Kyle Field stepped up. The fans did their job.

  • There were four things I always put on the bulletin board before we walked out of the locker room. They were: Play Physical. Win the Kicking game. Run the football. Stop the run. You look at the stats, and the game was not only won by Marcel Reed coming in and giving us a spark, but when has LSU only rushed for 24 yards?

  • Texas A&M ran for 242. Le'Veon Moss and Amari Daniels are getting better and better, and then you add Marcel Reed for the defense to account for. I am impressed with the way he throws the football. He is pretty accurate.

  • Knowing when to make a change at quarterback is a feeling. Whatever you tell your quarterbacks before the game can change during the game. It is a feeling. So far, every time the change has been made, it has worked. You have to give a lot of credit to the coaches and the players.

  • Being 5-0 in the conference is a big deal. Even if you're 5-0 and in the top ten, the next game is the most important.

  • We all talk about skilled people. There is no question those guys can make plays to help you win, but the game is won up front. You have to tip your hat to the guys up front. They played very well. If they continue to improve, all of us Aggies have a chance to be really happy at the year's end.

  • You and I both know what everybody is talking and thinking about. It is the last game of the year against Texas. Somehow, the coaches have to keep the team focused. That game is not the game until we get there. The most important game is the next one. You are on the road.

  • There are a few plays that turn a game completely around or win it. BJ Mayes' first interception and the immediate touchdown turned the game around. The missed field goal mechanics certainly hurt LSU. BJ Mayes came back and made another interception on a short field. Both interceptions were crucial, but the first one was the play that turned the game completely around.
