Brauny's Best: Highlighting top high school performances from Week 8
You know how this goes by now. Each week, I highlight some of the top performances from across the high school landscape. This week, I'll underline one of the top prospects in the Brazos Valley as well as a Texas A&M commit who's making his debut in this feature.
Texas A&M Class
2025 Phoenix (AZ) Desert Edge CB Jamar Beal-Goines
- 88 kick return yards, 56 punt return yards, 1 interception, 2 touchdowns
I thought A&M nabbing Beal-Goines out of the desert flew a little under the radar with the Aggie fan base when it happened. This kid has all the necessary traits to be an impact corner at the next level — including his raw speed, which is pretty remarkable. His quickness was on full display last week in a runway victory over Sunrise Mountain. I'm a fan of defensive backs that either make contested catches on the offensive side or show potential in the return game. I think having those traits adds a positive layer to their evaluations.
State of Texas
2025 Coppell QB Edward Griffin
- 18-20, 460 yards, 6 passing touchdowns
The Baylor commit was outstanding, and the Coppell Cowboys remained undefeated as they tore apart a respected program in Lewisville last weekend. It's not often that you see a passing total near the 500 mark on only 20 attempts. Griffin's efficiency and accuracy were on full display as he averaged 25.5 yards per completion. The tape shows a wide variety of throw types. He worked in rhythm from the pocket, off-schedule and off-platform and also had some wild Johnny Manziel-esque scrambles to extend plays that ultimately ended with on-target strikes down the field. He has some intriguing qualities to his game. I'll be interested to follow his career in Waco.

It was another hugely impressive stat line for the sensational sophomore from Blue Bell Country. It has become a bit of a habit this year. He amassed 350+ yards of total offense against previously undefeated Bryan Rudder. He runs with outstanding pad level and contact balance. There also seems to be an apparent anger/ill intent when he's got the ball in his hands. The way he finishes his carries is noticeably violent. While I wouldn't necessarily say he's a burner, he does flash better-than-you-think wiggle and subtle start/stop capabilities that allow him to navigate traffic at the line of scrimmage. Lastly, his pass-catching skills were a surprising but positive element to his game that I was unfamiliar with coming in. This kid is a real player.
