CFB Hall of Famer Kevin Smith to be honored at Kyle Field on Saturday

A consensus First Team All-American in 1991, former Aggie corner Kevin Smith will be recognized on Saturday by Texas A&M and the National Football Foundation. Smith joined TexAgs Live to discuss being part of the College Football Hall of Fame's Class of 2024.

• It is always great just to get back to Aggieland, induction or not. I am excited about this year’s team. I think coach Mike Elko has a team that is showing some grit that will only get better. I am bringing friends down that haven't been to Aggieland before. That will be an experience.
   
• It is quite an honor. I never thought that a 130-pound high school kid would take me so far. I stuck with it. I had some great teammates and coaches and believed in the process. It paid off in the long run.
   
• A&M has quite a bit of corners. Every time I look up, it's a different combination. It was either me or Derrick Frazier. Aaron Glenn or Frazier or Glenn and Ray Mickens. We didn't have so much for a rotation. They have so many. As a player, I dont remember missing one game. These guys get banged up quite a bit. I am more impressed with the safeties than the corners right now.
   
• I will come in Friday night and do a meet and greet. Sign some autographs and give jerseys away. At the two-minute warning, they will give me the A&M Maroon jacket. It should be exciting.
   
• “Pup” comes from my twin sisters, who are three years older than me. I am the baby of the family. When I was born, they had a dog that got hit by a car. When they brought me home, my sister was crying. One of my other brothers told them to stop crying because the dog was back but in the cradle. They thought I was the puppy for the first two to three years of my life, and I became “Pup” from that day on.
   
• We wanted to take the will out of the other team. One thing we had that was intimidating was the A&M crowd. The quarterbacks now have the helmet communication. Back then, the quarterback could not hear. Now, teams prepare for it. Back then, I can maybe remember losing two games at Kyle Field.
   
• I wanted to play in a hostile environment. In the pros, I love to go to Philadelphia. On offense, you don’t want them to be able to communicate. It’s a lot tougher.
