Week 2 of college football is upon us, as Texas A&M looks to regroup against McNeese after a season-opening loss. Michael Bratton, aka "SEC Mike," joined TexAgs LIVE to share his predictions for this weekend's upcoming slate of games.
Key notes from Michael Bratton interview
- Conner Weigman didn't look good at all. He came out strong and drove down the field. We are getting asked if Mike Elko is a worthy coach. People go overboard. The main takeaway is I have never watched Notre Dame look like it has better athletes than an SEC team. There was no separation from the receivers. That’s not on Weigman.
- I was surprised they didn't bench him for a series or too. It looked like Elko lost confidence in Conner throwing the football. We all saw that clip. It looked like the offensive coordinator lost confidence in the ability to run the ball. It was a calamity on the offensive side.
- Conner has to look a lot more comfortable with this offense. Outside of the first drive or two, it didn't seem like he was comfortable. I want to see explosive plays. This should be a shellacking. i want to see what the back QBs look like in the offense.
- I don't think Michigan gets to 10 points based on what I saw last weekend and Texas’ defense. I am more impressed by the Texas’ defense against Colorado State. We all know Michigan and how they cheat their way to victory. They can cheat all they want. I don't think they come close to Texas. I think the SEC needs this one. If Texas loses on Saturday, I think it will cause the SEC a College Football Playoff spot. The perception will be the SEC is not as dominant.
- Tennessee is going to destroy NC State. I have them 42-17. I don't think it will be close. Everyone leads off with Nico Iamaleava. The guy looks phenomenal, but the secret to Tennessee’s offense is they run the ball as well as anybody. They had 300 rushing yards in addition to Nico setting the record for all-time passing yards in a half. They won't do that against NC State, but Tennessee’s defensive front will be all over Grayson McCall.
- Oklahoma is winning by 50 points, and all I hear from the fans is, “We can't convert a third down. This offensive line ain't it.” You won by half a hundred? I love that they are picky. I think Oklahoma rolls Houston.
- I think the chatter about Elko is mostly Texas fans. They want A&M to be a bust and Elko to not be a good coach. I think they are a little afraid A&M has a quality coach who can lead the program in the right direction. Elko’s success will be defined by his offensive coordinator hires. If A&M has these issues in a month, then you have a real problem.
- I have been down on LSU. I put them ninth on my SEC Media Days poll. I don't get the hype. LSU’s defense is better than last season but they still lost. Garrett Nussmeier and Miller Moss played the same game, but Moss made a couple more plays. LSU’s real issue is they have no running game.
- Oklahoma State will move the ball at will on Arkansas. Oklahoma State has 10 senior starters, not including Ollie Gordon II. I like Oklahoma State to win and cover.
- I like Taylen Green. If he goes on the road and beats Oklahoma State, we need to give him respect.
- I didn't think Vanderbilt would win. How about Diego Pavia and Clark Lea? Their O/U win total was 2.5. I love it for Vanderbilt. I want them to be a pesky, fun team.
- If Vanderbilt and Texas A&M met today on a natural field, who am I taking? I am riding with Diego Pavia. He is incredible.
- I got an interesting text that said, “Watch out for A&M. When A&M goes out and beats Florida, that may be the end of Billy Napier.” It was already coming to an end. The narrative was if they fired him, they would lose DJ Lagway. They don't care about that anymore. They all think they can get Lane Kiffin. I think that's laughable. Whoever Florida gets next, it will not be a big-name coach.
- Jimbo Fisher to Florida? I would not wish that on anybody. No, Jimbo.
- I will be watching Lagway. Can’t wait for him to hit the portal and come back to Aggieland.
