Texas A&M soccer is back at Ellis Field this week with a pair of non-conference opponents coming to town. Ahead of battles vs. TCU on Thursday and Louisiana Tech on Sunday, head coach G Guerrieri joined TexAgs LIVE to preview the Aggies' week.

Key notes from G Guerrieri interview

  • We could have won every game. We have been burned by some really good play by our opponents. I think the respect that opponents have for us leads to us getting the best game from every opponent.

  • We have to step up and put our best foot forward. The goals that have been scored against us are like, "Wow." The pressure we put on people defensively has been a tough lesson.

  • The team we play on Thursday, TCU, is an excellent team. They are the preseason favorites for the Big 12. They have four wins and four shutouts. We have to look at them as a really important game, and it could be a good national bump for the postseason.

  • We have a great record against TCU, 11-3, but they have won the last few. Last year, we missed a penalty kick and a couple of breakaways. Then they scored a great goal in the last moments of the game. They have done a really good job. They play a lot like us. They are good in attack and good in counterpressing. The games that they win away from us should help us if we get the result we want on Thursday.

  • We have new food trucks out at Ellis Field. There is a new vibe in the park. There were more than 5,200 people at the last game. We need the student body out at the match because we feed off their energy.

  • For us, it is about closing up our lines and being able to play compact. We are an excellent counterattacking team. The key for us is finishing. We have had chances to finish easy goals, but the goals we've been scoring are the difficult ones. Sydney Becerra has been scoring some unbelievable goals from beyond the penalty area.

  • We want to play at a pace that is difficult for our opponents to defend. We have been able to do that, but it is a matter of getting that last chance on-frame. We have scored ten goals in four games, but can we get the goals at the times that we need them?

  • We have great depth on this team so we can overwhelm a lot of our opponents. TCU is a team that can do the same thing. This will be a great game.

  • We turn around and play LA Tech on Sunday. For the next four weeks, we are playing Thursday and Sunday, ending with Texas. We are on a long run right now. We are entering a period where we start the SEC season before too long, and we need to get it going. It starts with this massive game against TCU.

  • Amy Berend is one of our legends. We have put a lot of people into the Texas A&M Hall of Fame. Amy Berend was an All-American and all-conference player in the Big 12. She helped us win four straight Big 12 Championships, a couple of Big 12 Tournament Championships, and go on four great runs in the NCAA Tournament. She and her sister have gone on to take over a family business in Lewisville. She is an amazing woman and leader. She continues to represent Texas A&M well. She will be at the game on Thursday and will talk to the team. I could not be more proud of her as a player, businesswoman and mother.
