Key notes from Olin’s thoughts on Scourton
- I feel like Christmas came early with Nic Scourton coming to A&M. I am so excited about him. I think you can plug him in and expect him to do great things. He is a Preseason All-American and is projected as a first-round draft choice. He led the Big Ten in sacks last year.
- They probably still will double team him a lot. I think he will make a big impact. At the end of the year, we may say he should have been No. 1. I just want him to show it to me in the SEC. I know what he did in the Big Ten. He had two sacks last year against Michigan, one of the best offensive lines in the country. He got it done against good teams.
- You are not a finished product at 18 years old. He came out of high school, and Mike Elko did not offer him a scholarship when he was the DC at A&M. He came out of Bryan High School at 220 pounds, and Elko did not know if he would be big enough to get through the day-to-day in the SEC. So he goes to Purdue, gets up to 280 pounds and is a total dominant force. He then has a chance to come home to A&M.
- There is going to be some devouring to be done by the defensive line this year. It would be nice if he had more sacks than he did last year. He had ten last year. He will have better players around him. It would not surprise me if he had three sacks against Notre Dame. I saw Edgerrin Cooper have three sacks last year against Evan Neal and Alabama.
- I saw two things from him in the spring... He did a spin move and looked like a 280-pound ballerina. Guys of that size aren't supposed to move with that much agility. Then I saw him with that big sled, and he threw it a foot to the side, and it fell on its side. That is not something that a normal person can do. He is not normal. He is a different species.
