TexAgs' recruiting analyst Ryan Brauninger joined TexAgs Radio on Wednesday morning for another edition of Recruiting Country, highlighting the latest news and notes from the recruiting trail surrounding Texas A&M.

Key notes from Recruiting Country

  • We said something was something brewing. They were waiting for Adonyss Currie‍ to announce, and he did.

  • They had liked Tyler Thomas‍ for a long time. He checks a lot of boxes. It came together in the last couple of days. I talked to the Dickinson head coach John Snelson, and he went on and on about Tyler as a kid and about his character.

  • There has to be a mesh between the quality of the player and the quality of the person when you are trying to change a culture. Mike Elko implemented it in the spring, and now, he is doing it in recruiting.

  • When I was hinting that something might be happening, I was thinking of Currie with Thomas being soon after.

  • Currie fits the mold in terms of athleticism in the secondary. All of the kids they have committed in the secondary can really run, an attribute that Elko and his staff have wanted to add.

  • Currie is built more like Jaylon Jones. He is not as thick as Jaylon coming out, but he will be in that 6-foot-2, 6-foot-3 range. He has impressive track times. You get him as one of the top prospects out of California. That is a big recruiting win. Jonah Williams‍ is a big target at safety.

  • Tyler’s mass and size stand out. He already looks like an SEC offensive lineman. He is a big dude. You love his power potential. He has a really extensive background in basketball. He viewed himself as a basketball player until he got too big and too broad to remain a basketball prospect. He has positional versatility, much like Marcus Garcia‍.

  • This doesn't take away momentum with guys like Lamont Rogers‍ or Michael Fasusi‍, an elite talent prospect in Dallas.

  • I am comfortable saying they could add seven offensive linemen in this class. With all the changes coming, these rosters are so fluid. It gives you more wiggle room. It comes down to how many scholarships you have available. There is no limit to how many kids you can take anymore. It’s wise to be proactive on spots you need in the high school ranks.

  • Adam Cushing is very highly thought of. The kids like how he analyzes them. He is a teacher. He verbalizes what he wants, his expectations, etc. That’s a breath of fresh air for the current offensive line room.

  • They have to do something at wide receiver and something at running back. They still have some big-time targets out there. There is still so much intrigue in a wide array of positions. We will see how the chips fall over the summer.

  • Jimbo Fisher had a pool party. That was highly successful. It will be interesting to see if Elko & Co. continue that. I don't know if it will be the exact same, but something similar.

  • You are battling some top programs for top wideouts with Kaliq Lockett‍, Emmanuel Choice‍ and Kelshaun Johnson‍. Where does it go with Linkon Cure‍, Nicholas Townsend‍ or Kiotti Armstrong‍? There are top-end players that have A&M right in the mix.

  • I am super excited to see how they maneuver throughout the summer. Elko did a lot of recruiting work at Duke throughout the summer.

  • What have we learned about this Elko organization? They leave no stone unturned. They have been on top of all this since this staff arrived.

  • NIL is part of the conversation, but is it the leading conversation? I don't know. I am not saying that is right or wrong. Where do you draw the line with NIL? All these have thoughts on it.

  • At running back, it will be interesting to see. They have the guy they want in Deondrae Riden‍. That was a huge recruiting win. There are still some big-time targets, but I don't know if they will be in a huge rush to get another in the boat unless one of the big names wants to shut things down. They can do more evaluations there.

  • The camps will start on Saturday and run through June. I think they are later in the evening. Analyzing how they are run will be an interesting factor. Those camps were valued under Jimbo Fisher.

Currie is significantly faster. That was always the issue for Jones. Speed.

Also, I can't imagine why we need more RBs. I'd say get a 5-star in the 2026 class or a transfer next offseason instead if needed.
