The Maroon & White will be the No. 2 seed at the 2024 Bryan Regional, which begins on Monday, May 6, at Traditions Club. On Tuesday morning, Texas A&M women's golf coach Gerrod Chadwell spoke to TexAgs Radio about the Aggies' upcoming NCAA Tournament slate.

Key notes from Gerrod Chadwell interview

  • It’s way hotter than it was last week. The ponds are full. The creeks are full. We got six or seven inches at the golf course. The creek got out of its banks in a couple of places at Traditions, but the crew is getting the course put together before everyone shows up.

  • The men almost had Vanderbilt in the semifinals at the SEC Tournament. It can flip like that, and they could have won 3&2. They’re playing great golf, and they’ll find out their slate on Wednesday for the NCAA Tournament.

  • It has been a minute since we’ve hosted a regional. For our sport, it’s nice to have a championship in Aggieland. Our department is very generous to allow different sports to host the NCAA Tournament. I wish it had started yesterday. Our girls are excited to get going.

  • I really like my team. I really like my team on Traditions. We’ve gotten the best of LSU the last couple of times out, but they’re a good team. We beat Clemson at their home golf course a couple of months ago. I really like my team. If we play our good golf, we’ll be headed to San Diego.

  • We want to win our regional. The way we processed not winning the SEC Championship is that they’re hungry to come to our course in front of our fans and win a regional. I like the motivation that it served because we still have golf in front of us. Let’s handle our business at home. It’s hard because you’re onto the next. You don’t get to take a moment. I’m thankful that we’re playing here, we get to sleep in our own beds and that all of our finals will be done before we hit a shot on Monday.

  • We’re going to be paired with the top three seeds. We had a new ranking format rollout this year that wasn’t very good. It still needs some work. If you asked teams coming to the regional, they probably feel like we’re the No. 1 seed. A few years ago, we went to Vanderbilt, and they were the No. 5 seed. They ended up winning the regional and stealing a spot. We’re probably a No. 1 seed because we’re on our own golf course. You can throw the numbers out because the golf ball usually decides who moves on.

  • I love my team. I love where they’re at. I love everything they’ve put into our program. To get to play a home regional is a great reward for what they’ve done for our program. With a team like this, you just have to get them there on time. The final touches have been put on everything.

  • Today, Traditions is closed because of all the rain. This week, it’s going to be more individual-based with finals and everything. We’re keeping the stress off of them. There is no need to do anything that they haven’t already done at Traditions. Something like 800 shots will decide this.

  • Maryland beat us at Houston. They’re the No. 7 seed. A lot of people look at changing time zones, grasses or climates. Thinks of teams in the southern climate like SMU, who got the best of us last year at regionals. You have to play good golf, and that will get rewarded. It’s 54 holes, not a head-to-head thing.

  • On Monday morning, we’re in the early 8 a.m. group. If you can’t come on Monday or Tuesday, we have a practice round on Sunday. We would love to see anybody and everybody come out and celebrate these young ladies.

  • We had a banquet the other night to celebrate the seniors. It’s unfair that we haven’t been able to step back and truly appreciate them. It goes by so fast. The senior group has played 40 events, and in 35 of them, they finished in the top five. That’s what we have to do in order to advance It is amazing what this group has done, and I’m excited to see them compete on their home turf. They have taken us on an amazing ride, and I am forever indebted to them.
