This week, Texas A&M women's golf traveled to Melbourne, Florida for the Moon Golf Invite, and finished tied for fifth place in a loaded field. The Aggies' head coach Gerrod Chadwell joined Wednesday's edition of TexAgs Radio to discuss the tournament.

Key notes Gerrod Chadwell interview

  • I thought our performance at the Moon Golf Invitational was really good. We had a good talk about where we’re headed. It was good to see signs of what we were waiting for.

  • We cleaned some stuff up from the second round, and it wasn't a challenge but more of an awareness of things we could clean up.

  • It was very encouraging to climb up the leaderboard just a little bit and have a respectable finish. That will be the toughest field we’ll see until SEC time.

  • Yesterday, we played in foursomes with a shotgun start, and it was Vanderbilt, Ole Miss, us and Arkansas. Behind us were Auburn and LSU. It was a preview of what we’re going to have to do come April.

  • Adela Cernousek has just grown so much. It’s cool to see the growth. She’s a world-class golfer, and she has maturity off the course. It’s really fun to watch her play golf. She can dominate the course with distance and has gotten better with the wedge and putter. She is so impressive.

  • Hopefully, that’s what we look at over my tenure here is consistency. Getting in the final four the past two years is great. It’s hard to do, but if we can continue to have the same seasons, September through May, that’ll be something to be proud of.

  • Blanca Fernández García-Poggio has grown up in a lot of ways. It’s interesting to see her true spirit come out in a lot of ways. She’s thriving, and it's cool to see big sister lead by example. We couldn’t ask for anything more from her.

  • Jennie Park is doing Jennie Park things. Park is a complete person and a complete player. I say that in every sense of the word. Recently, I got to walk 18 holes with her. We talked about some things, and hopefully, that’ll get her over the hump.

  • I got to walk 18 holes with Cayetana Fernández García-Poggio yesterday. She shot a 72 which is probably the worst that she could shoot, but that was us trying to put a lot of things in her process that will bear a lot of fruit going forward.

  • Cayetana puts high expectations on herself, so she needs to allow herself some grace. Her short game is phenomenal, and her course management is phenomenal, so we’re just trying to get her to be easier on herself.

  • Last year, we set a few program records at the Houston Open. Zoe Slaughter won convincingly there last year. I’m just excited to hop in a van and create some memories going up and down the road.

  • We play 36 holes on Monday, and 18 on Tuesday. I would love to see some Aggies in the Houston area, showing support for the girls. I’m excited for us, I think we’re going to play great, based on what we saw. It’s a quick turnaround, but very excited for us to take that next step.
