Williams shares what hurt vs. LSU, outlines response needed at Auburn

Texas A&M shockingly dropped its first conference game of the season, as LSU overpowered the Aggies, 68-53. Buzz Williams joined Monday's edition of TexAgs Radio to detail the surprising loss and how the Aggies aim to respond on the road against Auburn on Tuesday.

• I was very disappointed on Saturday. The first thing would be we did not play hard enough. We did not play to our identity. We were not who we had to be in order to have a chance. We were disappointed in the result but more disappointed in the energy that we lacked from start to finish on both sides of the ball. Not an excuse or justifying the loss, I am talking about all of the energy and work, not only from this season but also our lack of juice for conference game number one.
   
• Our integrity yesterday was dramatically different. We need to figure out what our problem was. We have something that is infecting us that we have to try to heal/cure as soon as possible. Yesterday, we spent all of our time trying to figure those things out. We spent the last hour talking about our game plan and our response. After Saturday, there was confusion about who we had to be first. Regardless of opponent, we have to get back to our identity.
   
• I think we have, over time, set a standard that we play really hard. We try really hard. We set a standard that we care. We think that is a steal in regards to how much we care. A lot of the intangibles were not present in the game on Saturday. Credit to LSU. They beat us from start to finish. That is for us to reflect on.
   
• I think we are all struggling with our shot. Wade Taylor IV has the same struggles with his shot, regardless of attention. I would like to make all our shots. Our players are not shooting to miss them, but having said that, going into the game on Saturday, even though we have not shot well, our offense was ranked fifth in the country.
   
• That is because we were No. 1 in the offensive rebounding percentage. We shoot, and we miss a lot. Up until Saturday, we had rebounded 46 percent of our misses. That is tremendous. We had the fifth-best turnover rate. Only four teams take care of the ball better than we do. We have rebounded an astronomical amount of those misses. Our offense is fifth despite being 330th in 3-point percentage.
   
• Henry Coleman III has scored 85 percent of his points on cuts and offensive rebounds. The other 15 percent come from the free throw line because he gets fouled. We have some action where we isolate him on the post. He is more comfortable in rotation. He is the overall leading rebounder in the SEC going into conference play. Andersson Garcia is the leading offensive rebounder. Henry can't play games where he has zero offensive rebounds, and he is aware of that.
   
• There is a goaltending rule change this year. Against Iowa State, there was a situation like that. In real-time, if goaltending is called, at the next timeout, they can review that. You lose that possession. I was a little caught off guard as they mentioned it to me.
