Texas A&M adds former FAU OL Dorian Hinton via transfer portal

The Maroon & White’s search to beef up the offensive front has gone from coast to coast, and the Aggies received some good news as OL Dorian Hinton announced his plans to transfer from Florida Atlantic to Texas A&M.

Hinton checks in at 6-foot-4 and 315 pounds, and he has been a mainstay at offensive guard for the Owls over the last two seasons. He started all 12 games for the Owls as a junior in 2023 and played in 11 games and started eight as a sophomore in 2022.

Previous to Florida Atlantic, Hinton established himself as a force in the trenches at Middle Tennessee State. He originally signed with Middle Tennessee as a three-star prospect out of Naples (FL) in the 2019 recruiting class. He redshirted as a true freshman in 2019, and in the 2020 COVID season, he played in eight games and drew six starts on his way to Conference USA All-Freshman honors. In 2021, he started nine of 10 games for the Middle Tennessee.

Hinton becomes the Aggies’ 20th transfer addition. He will arrive in College Station as a redshirt senior.

Well, we have a crap load of players but we will see how good they are and what kind of talent evaluator Elko is. I will reserve judgement until next year but I like his aggressive approach.

My cup almost runneth over. But we can still use a pass catching tight end and a long, fast, wide receiver.

We are losing many to the portal. We have to replace them somehow. Hopefully we found a few studs.

Show out big man and welcome to Aggieland! So glad to see Elko doubling down on seasoned, athletic strong o-linemen. I knew he would focus here as he's focused on a winning formula-dominate up front!

Definitely going to need a program at the start of the season to identify all the new players !

i am not saying your missing the boat but if i might assist. elko is bringing in competition, every dudes role is up for grabs and he is bringing in dudes who in most cases have had multiple years of starting experience at a smaller school. you think any of the guys plan on sitting the bench? i bet not, nor will th current players want to relinquish their roles. it%92s going to be a dog fight and that%92s a great thing. our team will
be tougher more physical and more disciplined because that will be a pre requisite to playing and winning the job.

i have also noticed that at least some of these guys were also team captains. so he is changing the culture with competition and bringing in more mature guys who are also decent people.

I think this is a great approach by Elko, given how many players have left in the wake of the Jimbo firing.

He's got to fill the roster somehow, and quickly. Some of them will likely work out, some might not. But it allows Elko to focus on longer term needs through recruiting HS players (and likely the portal in future years as well, which has become the norm for almost everyone), based on how these current incoming players perform this upcoming season.

You've got class work, character references, etc. that tells you a lot about these guys that you wouldn't have with HS'ers. It's going to be quite a spring.

We already have 3 good pass-catching TE's in Green, the Purdue transfer, and Platt. Still developing the Swede as the 4th TE.

Unlike Fran or Sherman, Elko isn't throwing in the towel on season one. That being said, the landscape is certainly different in 2024 that it was then. I don't think the team we fielded in the bowl game has the horses to compete at a decent level in the SEC. We need an influx of talent that can compete in the best co defense. These kids need coached up and get in great shape for next fall.

I could watch highlight videos of Guards pulling and coming downhill on LBs and CBs all day.

Green is the only one that is semi-proven of the whole bunch.

" The 6-foot-5, 250-pound Miller is coming off a career season with the Boilermakers, where he caught 30 passes for 243 yards and 2 touchdowns. It was a strong comeback for Miller, who missed all of 2022 with a knee injury suffered during fall camp.

Already regarded as a solid blocker, Miller proved his versatility in 2023 with big games against Big 10 foes Minnesota and Iowa. He caught 8 passes for 71 yards against the stingy Hawkeyes defense, and added 6 catches for 65 yards and a touchdown against the Golden Gophers.

Miller, who will have a single season left to play at A&M, should slot in quickly with returning players Donovan Green, Jaden Platt and Theo."

" Garrett Miller, who to me is an absolute freak. He's an absolute freak from a skillset level," Purdue tight ends coach Seth Doege said last spring.
______________
Platt proved in the bowl game he could catch and run. Question is whether he can block good enough to play a lot already.

If only 1 in 6 players hit in a big way, that's still 3 starters. Maybe 1 in 5 or 6 for any recruiting class (Bama and Georgia included) become starters. If only 2 of the 13 or so in the regular signing class become starters, that puts the overall class right on par with being good. Remember there are only 22 starters and 3 specialists on any team, so 6 per year on average builds a team over 4 years.

It's literally impossible to build an entire team in one class so you're really looking for 5 or 6 Dudes, and another dozen rotational guys slash receiver and DB depth. He doesn't need all of them to hit big, and we can probably pencil in Will Lee and Scourton as two of them. Apparently the Alex Howard kid is a real sleeper of a hit, too.

ETA: Dunno how I mistyped the reply that badly
