nice excuses for qb's getting hurt. What about all the other times the QB is getting pummeled?

Press Conference: Fisher, Aggies ready to battle Mississippi State
It will be Maroon vs. Maroon on Saturday night as the Fightin' Texas Aggies host the Mississippi State Bulldogs for the Maroon Out game at Kyle Field. On Monday afternoon, Jimbo Fisher, Earnest Crownover and Albert Regis spoke to the media to preview this week's matchup.
The following are live, paraphrased notes from Jimbo Fisher’s Monday afternoon media availability:
- It was a heck of a game. Could have made one more player. Made plays in all three phases. Have to learn to find the inch. Guys played their hearts out. At the end of the day, you have to win. It was a hurt locker room afterward. We have to move on this week and play Mississippi State. They are a good football team. Offensively, Will Rogers has been banged up. Not throwing as much. We need to play well and flush that one from last week.
- Le’Veon Moss got tackled. It’s not a tear. No surgery. Day to day. Max Johnson took a couple of tough shots. Plan on him playing, hopefully, but we will see day by day.
- We have to find a way. We were down and built back up.
- Guys get banged up. Guys get hurt on quarterback sneaks. We had turf toe with Haynes King, Conner Weigman with an ankle, and Max hit his thumb on a helmet. Some of them a freak accidents. The year before, Haynes was running in open field against Colorado. It’s unfortunate luck.
- We evaluate every day. We hold brooms up for guys to kick over. It got the top of his finger. We returned a kick for a touchdown. We have had positives.
- Jaylen Henderson would play if Max Johnson can’t. Henderson and Marcel Reed are No. 3 and 4.
- Zach Arnett has nine games under his belt. He is a defensive guy. Offense is not the same.
- The guys love any game in Kyle Field. There are 100,000 in there, no matter what time it is. Guys will be juiced up and ready to go.
- A couple of times, we need to step up. We need to step up in the pocket. You have to get a feel for it.
- I don't know coach Arnett very well. They have had bad luck at quarterback. That’s unfortunate for a young coach.
- Some quarterbacks do the QB sneak well. Kellen Mond did it well. It’s always built into anything we do. Sometimes, that’s a check, just like on any other play.
- They are trying to run the ball. There is more diversity.
- With the amount of time you have to prepare, you are preparing for two quarterbacks. That’s hard. It's kind of going in blind.
- I loved our leadership in the game. We need to help them make another play. If something bad happens, you educate yourself and ask why it happened. They don't point fingers.
- Bobby Petrino being out West, knew Henderson and liked him in high school. There are so many connections. People know everybody. You know enough people you can trust and judge them.
- Shemar Turner will be available this week.
- Ideally, no freshmen would play, and you would redshirt everybody. That's old school. That’s not the world we live in. I am saying that for their development. They want to hurry and get to the league in three years. Some guys can step in a play, and some need a year. It makes you nervous as a coach. Another reason to not sleep the night before.
- Tony Grimes has been banged up and won’t probably play the rest of the year. Reuben Fatheree is rehabbing.
- Sometimes, those PFF scores are not correct. Y’all tell me who they are supposed to block. Chase Bisontis is progressing. Sometimes freshmen get a second wind.
- I saw the block. Randy Bond kicked one inch too low. A 6-foot-7 guy got up. It barely snipped the top of his finger. That was it.
