TexAgs' recruiting analyst Ryan Brauninger joined TexAgs Radio on Wednesday morning for another edition of Recruiting Country, highlighting the latest news and notes from the recruiting trail surrounding Texas A&M.

Key notes from Recruiting Country

  • Two key additions on the offensive line in Coen Echols‍ and Weston Davis‍, and a defensive lineman in Gabriel Reliford‍.

  • Every cycle, A&M has a certain amount of recruits by June, and everyone panics. If they finish the summer the way they can, they will be miles away from this time last year. They have utilized 7on7 to get kids on campus.

  • We feel outstanding about Drelon Miller‍. USC and LSU are doing all they can on that one. Jaylan Hornsby‍ is down to A&M and Penn State. He will commit on July 1. We feel good about Tyanthony Smith‍ and Terry Bussey‍. They are in a good spot with Kobe Black‍.

  • Weston Davis is a big commitment. Coen Echols was an early evaluation, and you got him over Auburn and Texas Tech. Winning over Texas Tech is becoming a bigger deal. Gabriel Reliford was between A&M, Vanderbilt and Ole Miss. Not a ton of commonality between those two schools. Echols is a high-potential center prospect. Having a kid all in on playing center is a big deal. He is a perfect candidate to play that spot.

  • The coaches saw Gabriel Reliford and said, “He is 100 percent a take.” He has the best tape in the class right now, and that's saying something. He has an 81-inch wingspan. He has a good frame on him and could fill out more. That's a good versatile get.

  • Weston Davis has raw tools and potential. I don't think there is a better overall tackle prospect in the state of Texas. I think Ashton Funk‍ is the most polished prospect in Texas.

  • This is about a 180-degree difference from the spring. Just the vibe we are getting from when kids come on campus, they are doing a good job of catering the visits to the kids. They are getting the right staff with the right kids. The vibe has changed, and it's starting to produce results.

  • When a guy at the top leaves, it can be a rudderless ship, but you have guys that have recruited for so long.

  • No way to tell how this 2024 class will end until the season starts. There are programs that have more staying power than A&M. If they have another stinker of a season, some of these kids won't be committed anymore. If they have a good season, you could have a top-five, six or seven class.

  • Recruiting websites are trying to keep it simple by keeping their highest rating a “five-star.” I don't know if there is a better way to do it unless you take it to “10-stars.” Maybe just looking at the rank. That's not one of the issues in recruiting. They are putting on NIL evaluations on guys. That is completely over the line. We are not doing that. We do not do crystal balls. If you read our reporting, you can figure it out. I don't like taking the moment away from the kid.

  • Trever Jackson‍, Nigel Smith II‍ and Myles Davis‍ were here over the weekend. Signing two quarterbacks in a class is rare. Signing three is almost unheard of. I don't see anything happening with Jackson unless the landscape changes.

  • Terry Price was Nigel Smith II’s main recruiter, and Elijah Robinson took over when Price got sick. I've heard Bryce Anderson, Kam Dewberry and Bobby Taylor are doing a great job. A&M has been transparent with Myles Davis. I expect Texas to counterpunch. He's talking about an August 25 commitment date.

  • The clear leader for Micah Hudson‍ is Texas Tech. I don't think the door is shut for A&M. Texas Tech is way out in front. It would not surprise me to see him commit to Texas Tech. He's super talented. Garrett Wilson is the comparison. A&M was way behind, but they did a very good job with him and threw themselves into the mix.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
I didn't know we had a shot with Kobe Black, would be a huge get.

He's been crystal balled to Sips recently. So also surprised.

I hope this was primarily a reference to WR Hudson. Or just a note that Tech is recruiting better than in the past.

I cannot for the life of me figure out why a 5* WR... or any 5* player, for that matter... would want to play at TT.

You can play literally ANYWHERE in the entire country and you choose Texas tech??

Horrible education in a butt nasty location, while playing football in a bottom rung, dying league at a school that is a bottom feeder in that same bottom feeding league???
