Recruiting Country: The latest recruiting news surrounding the Maroon & White
TexAgs' recruiting analyst Ryan Brauninger joined TexAgs Radio on Wednesday morning for another edition of Recruiting Country, highlighting the latest news and notes from the recruiting trail following surrounding Texas A&M.
Key notes from Recruiting Country
- Tristan Jernigan is a kid we have spoken about, but not as much. Most of the talk has been about in-state kids. We didn't talk about him enough as analysts. D.J. Durkin and Jernigan were talking about a commitment for about a week. The film and offer list are mismatched. He shows some tenacity and detonates guys. You see fluidity in his coverage. He runs to the football. He had 96 tackles on a team that was really good.
- Durkin is underrated as a recruiter. We are now seeing him as the lead guy recruiting for the linebacker position. Tyler Santucci caught a lot of strays, but this is a results-based business. Daymion Sandford is very athletic, and Taurean York has a nose for the football. Jernigan is a combination of those. There's much more ownership of the linebacker position.
- It sounds like you're going to get three linebackers in this class. You may have to fight until the end for Jernigan because he's out of state. In the other two spots, I am very confident Tyanthony Smith is at the top of their want list. That's their No. 1 priority. A&M offered Kiotti Armstrong, a potential top-10 player in the class. Durkin spent a lot of time at the Jasper meeting with the coaching staff and expressed a want for Tyanthony Smith.
- Cal Penn receiver JaQuae Jackson‘s official visit is wrapping up. They'll make a push at receiver. They'll make a push at defensive back. They are looking at hybrid guys. Antonio Carter II from Rhode Island may take a visit. They want a cover guy. You want to raise the talent overall, whether it's a safety body or a corner body. They have scholarships, even if they are one-year guys. Make your roster as good as you can. Grad transfers can still enter the portal. You did not have any new names who entered.
