Lots of hard hitting insights from Ryan. Thank goodness there are no general statements of the obvious here.

Ryan Swope hoping to see a motivated A&M squad on Saturday night
Former Texas A&M wideout Ryan Swope has put the Appalachian State loss behind him and is ready to see the Fightin' Texas Aggies take on Miami on Saturday night. As always, the Aggie legend joined TexAgs Radio to share who got it done last week and predict who will this week.
Key notes from Ryan Swope interview
- I have absolutely recovered from Saturday's loss. that's part of football. You have some bumps in the road. How these kids respond to that is important. We're going to find out who our warriors are and how to turn this ship around. This week is a true test to showcase who those leaders are on that football team.
- Did we lack focus last week? Absolutely. Did we do things poorly? Absolutely. You can't focus on the negatives all the time, but hopefully, it put a bad taste in their mouths for practice this week.
- Appalachian State was a damn good football team that we played. Watch out for App State. I think they're coached really well and have a great team.
- We went out there and laid an egg. We have to improve on stuff like protecting our quarterback better and not giving away the football. We have to execute and get better. They've only been in the red zone once in two games, and that's unacceptable. As an offensive player, I'd be taking all the blame on that. As a receiver, I was licking my chops on third-and-5 or third-and-8. I was always convinced we were going to convert, and I always wanted my number called to keep the drive going and ultimately punch the ball into the end zone.
- You have to keep watching film and keep working. You cannot look back. You have to take that criticism and keep working and trust the guys around you. Do your job. Everyone just has to focus on doing their job. You have to keep going. As frustrated as some of those guys may be, you will find out who your great ones are after adversity and tough losses like this one. I'm anxious to see who steps up this week.
- It can be tough to keep a team together, but you have a goal. Those goals are still attainable. You have to go back to those goals as a team and an individual. What if the Ags win out? There are so many things that can happen. So many have thrown in the towel on these guys, and that's not fair. That's what Aggies aren't about. Did we look terrible? Absolutely, and coach Fisher would tell you that. You can get better, and that's what's most important. They can only improve. We still control our destiny, so let's go win out.
- I've noticed a lack of focus, and I don't think they're very motivated. That's on Jimbo Fisher, and I'm hoping he can turn that around.
- Nobody got it done last week. Devon Achane has been the most consistent, and I just hope we continue to find ways to get him involved.
- Our entire team did not get it done. Offense has been so poor. The fact they've only been in the red zone once in two games is very concerning. As a receiver, I'd be doing everything I could to spend extra time in the film room and on the field. As a senior, I'd take full responsibility for that. Our offense certainly needs to improve a lot.
- I'm going to say that we really need to run the football better. I'm going to say that our running backs show up and our offensive line blocks well. Achane is the guy that we lean on. I think he will get it done, and he's electric and brings energy to Kyle Field.
- This is a big game on Saturday. How you respond is important, and I know Jimbo has these guys ready to go. This is a good team coming in here on Saturday, and we need Kyle Field to be as loud as ever to support this team. We have to put the last game to sleep and learn from it. I just hope we come out explosive on all cylinders. I think we win this football game. I really do. I think Vegas has us favored too, and a lot of times, they’re pretty accurate.
