On Friday night, Texas A&M volleyball extended its win streak to five, downing Louisiana 3-1. The group hit at a .281 clip, recording 42 kills and only 15 errors as they topped the Ragin’ Cajuns.

The Aggies built upon their recent hot momentum, jumping out to an 8-2 start in the first set and flustering the Ragin’ Cajuns, who totaled seven errors in the first frame and 27 total. Not even out-of-system balls could slow A&M down. The Maroon & White capitalized off their strong start, never letting the Ragin’ Cajuns within range and ultimately finishing the set off, 25-12.

“In practice, like Bird said, we focused on locking in early,” freshman Logan Lednicky said. “In some of our previous matches, we were off to a slow start. We all knew coming in that Louisiana was going to be a good opponent. We knew the game plan and came prepared. We were ready to play.”

“I always tell them, ‘Put it in your pocket.’ We hang onto that stuff, but we need to know every match is a new match. There’s a reason why we schedule matches, and there’s a reason why you play the game. You have to execute at a high level all the time.”

Louisiana answered back with more firepower in the second once they settled in. Limited mistakes by the Ragin’ Cajuns allowed the visitors to play serve-for-serve until they ran away with the game. Six errors by the Maroon & White prevented the Aggies from getting anything going, and Louisiana took the second set, 25-16.

Over the course of A&M’s five-game win streak, the Aggies have only dropped two sets, but head coach Bird Kuhn said the team does a good job of putting those accomplishments behind them and looking forward.

“I always tell them, ‘Put it in your pocket,’” Kuhn said. “We hang onto that stuff, but we need to know every match is a new match. There’s a reason why we schedule matches, and there’s a reason why you play the game. You have to execute at a high level all the time.”

The Aggies dialed in to return for the third set.

Notre Dame transfer Caroline Meuth reached a double-digit kill count as the Aggies rolled out a 9-1 run. The Ragin’ Cajuns tallied eight errors, allowing the Aggies to come out on top, 25-13. Purdue transfer Molly Brown added two kills in the set, making it a career night with six total kills and a .600 clip.

“She’s my best friend,” Meuth said of Brown. “She is such a hard worker and is so dedicated to being as good as she can in every single area.”

The Maroon & White ultimately finished Louisiana off in the fourth set, 25-12. In all four frames, the squad recorded nine blocks, and Lednicky and Meuth added another double-digit kill match to their belts.

The Aggies hit the road to take on Indiana as part of the WKU Invitational in Bowling Green, KY, next Friday, Sept. 16, at 1 p.m. Following the invitational, A&M will return to Reed Arena on Sept. 21 for the SEC home-opener against Ole Miss at 6:30 p.m.
