Texas A&M remains at No. 6 in Associated Press rankings

The Associated Press released its rankings on Tuesday morning after the first week of college football action.

Following a 31-0 shutout on a wet Saturday in Aggieland, the Fightin’ Texas Aggies stayed put in the AP poll. Notre Dame was ranked ahead of A&M in the preseason and fell on the road against Ohio State, but the Aggies were leapfrogged in the ranks by Michigan after their 51-7 win over Colorado State.

This week’s poll includes eight SEC schools in the Top 25. Tennessee and Florida make their season debuts after wins over Ball State and then-No. 7 Utah, respectively. Arkansas rose to No. 16 after outlasting Cincinnati, 31-24. Football school Kentucky stayed put at No. 20 following its 37-13 win over Miami (OH), while Ole Miss posted an 18-point victory over Troy. The Ags join Alabama (No. 1) and Georgia (No. 2) in the top ten.

Week One included three ranked matchups. First, Georgia dominated Oregon in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff game in Atlanta, 49-3. Then, as mentioned above, Arkansas took down Cincinnati at home. Finally, Ohio State defeated the Fighting Irish at home in a contest that was much closer than expected.

This week’s slate gives us only three ranked contests as No. 9 Baylor ventures to Provo to play No. 21 BYU, No. 24 Tennesee visits No. 17 Pitt, and No. 12 Florida faces off with No. 20 Kentucky in a matchup that could prove to be pivotal in the SEC East.

My son was absolutely KNEW that we would be #5...

I said nope... we'll be lucky if we don't drop.

He asked how. I said just wait and see.
