Solid win. Bit of a lackluster start but definitely picked it up with the bats as the game went on into the middle innings... Bullpen was fantastic. Could have been easy to look ahead to Georgia a bit but nice job to regroup after the slow start and come back for the win.
Johnston was decent, was a little surprised they didn't let him go slightly longer. Only threw 37 pitches. Maybe was a touch erratic but stuff was fine. Hector gave up the HR but did a nice job throwing strikes and limiting the damage after that. Tremendous work by Menefee, Rudis & Palisch... Totally shut Corpus down. 5 IP, 3 H, 8 K, 2 BB. Just superb and exactly what the team needed.
At bats were a little up and down, some guys swung it well, Moss/Minnich and Targac with the blast... Britt had a good swing on his 2B. Were a little fortunate that Corpus had some issues defensively but we put the ball in play just enough to cause those problems for them.
Overall this was definitely an important win just from not falling in the RPI perspective... Although ample opportunity to make up for that if it hadn't gone our way. Still just want to keep playing good baseball & thought we really upped our competitiveness as the game went on. Good way to head into a huge series with Georgia & one that I really think we have a good shot at winning. Really love the way this team has come together & excited to see them keep going in SEC play.
