The hall of fame head coach of Aggie Softball, Jo Evans joined Thursday morning's edition of TexAgs Radio to discuss the first two weeks of SEC play, last night's walk-off win over Houston Baptist and the SEC gauntlet rolling on.

Key notes from Jo Evans interview

  • The midweeks can always be a little bit dicey. You feel like it should be a comfortable game, but we battled and found a way to win. When you are playing an opponent you know you should beat and then you find yourself in a close game, it's a reminder that anything can happen, and we have to be more locked in when it comes to SEC play.

  • Makinzy Herzog has had some opportunities to come in a pitch, and she has done really well against quality opponents. Our team has competed regardless if she's out there, but our team is a lot better when our ace is in the circle.

  • It's a learned behavior to have that killer instinct, and we need to improve in that area. We need to have the confidence in being able to play against some of the top teams. We had that with Florida because we had a chance to win the game late in the seventh on Friday. We didn't get it done, but our team came out Saturday and played to win. We have to stay in that headspace to know what we have to do every game. We have older players who know what to do as well as having younger players knowing they need to step up.

  • Georgia is a great ball club. They beat Clemson last night. They are known for their hitting, and we have to keep the ball in the yard. We can hit too, and it's going to be an offensive battle. I'm looking forward to getting out there on the road against Georgia.

  • Haley Lee is one of the leaders in the country in almost every category. She is leading us in every way, whether it's in the clubhouse or on the field. As a coach, you want 18 players like Haley Lee.
