During Monday morning's edition of TexAgs Radio, Aggie baseball head coach Jim Schlossnagle joined to share his thoughts on the series win over LSU at Alex Box Stadium in the first Southeastern Conference series of the year.

Key notes from Jim Schlossnagle interview

  • If you would've told me series win going into the weekend, I would've taken that going away. But I'm greedy; I wish we could've gotten the sweep on Sunday. I think the guys really competed well and showed toughness in every inning of every game. It wasn't perfect, but we got it done. The environment was incredible. I hope we get some of that from the 12th Man this weekend against Auburn.

  • I think Ty Hodge and Austin Stracener will be good for us in the future, but we needed a shakeup in our lineup. Getting Ryan Targac out there and Austin Bost playing second was huge for us. It wasn't pretty, but we got it done. I think Michael Earley did a really good job getting our hitters ready. But, at the end of the day, it's all about going out and competing. I told the team after the weekend that this needed to be the minimum standard of how we compete in every at-bat. I got compliments from the great Skip Bertman on how our guys competed every single AB.

  • I saw the mindset start to change in the locker room on Friday night. I think playing in that environment probably helped us as well. It was an us against the world mentality. There's nothing better than going on the road and hearing a silent ballpark. We got that done quite a few times this weekend.

  • Khristian Curtis will start the game tomorrow, but I think we will have to have a different plan for the bullpen going into the weekend. We need some right-handed help out of the bullpen to help us get some big outs. I think it's a great sign that our offense was able to score some big late-inning runs on both Friday and Saturday.

  • Joseph Menefee is just such an awesome guy. I wish everyone got the opportunity to be around these kids like I do. He's such a competitor, and wearing that uniform means so much to him. I think at times it means too much, and he tries too hard. I told him to just go out and throw strikes. We didn't need 110%. He pitched awesome against a really tough lineup.

  • I learned a long time ago that just because a move doesn't work, it doesn't mean it was a bad move. The fourth outfielder worked once and didn't work another. Who knows what the season turns into, but I can tell you that we grew as a team this weekend. That was a championship dugout this weekend.

  • If there's anything that I learned this weekend, it's that this team has it in them to compete at the highest level in the Southeastern Conference.

  • Trevor Werner is probably around ten days out for us to start looking to get him back in the lineup.
