Jo Evans and the Aggie softball team begin Southeastern Conference play this weekend with the Auburn Tigers this weekend. Ahead of the matchup, Evans joined TexAgs Radio to discuss the current status of her team, how they match up with Auburn and more.

Key notes from Jo Evans interview

  • It was great to get back home to Davis Diamond yesterday and get a win over Texas State. Last weekend, we were on the road in California. Texas State is always a game where they come to town tuned up and ready to go. That’s a great win for us to go out and get before SEC play.

  • I don't know if you're ever 100 percent ready for Southeastern Conference play. We have the toughest schedule in the conference this year. Every team we play is currently in the top-25 in the country. You have to be ready to go out there and be ready to compete week-in-and-week-out in the conference. It’s the best of the best.

  • We play five-game weekends in the preseason, and it takes a toll on you. I'm not sure why we still do it, honestly. This weekend will be our first three-game series, and I’m excited to see how we stack up against Auburn.

  • We have a young team for sure. This will be their first experience of the Southeastern Conference. Katie Dack is providing for us at the plate as a freshman, and that’s huge. Emiley Kennedy in the circle is getting it done.

  • Auburn is the best they've been in a while. It’s going to be a tough test on the road for our team. I want to see us go out and compete against a tough team, in a tough environment. This is a weekend to go out and set the tone.
