Defense wins ball games.

This afternoon was no exception as defense was the key in Texas A&M‘s third straight win of the 2021-22 season, as they took down A&M-Corpus Christi, 86-65.

The Aggies turned 14 Corpus Christi turnovers into 25 points and held the Islanders to 38% percent shooting from the field, including just 23% from behind the three-point line.

Victoria Ramirez, TexAgs
Tyrece Radford led the Aggies in scoring with 11 points.

Conversely, this was Texas A&M's best shooting performance of the short season as it connected on 48% of its field goals and nearly 40% from long range.

Combine a good shooting night with holding the opponent scoreless in the last 2:25 seconds and Buzz Williams and company end the game with a 21 point victory.

Tyrece Radford (11), Henry Coleman (10) and Marcus Williams (10) all scored in double figures, but it was the production from the bench that led the Aggies to an easy win.

"There are a lot of new parts and I love our pieces. I think there's a distinct role for each of them," Buzz Williams said about his team. "That's the point we have to get to, where everybody's pulling in the same direction and comfortable with what their role is."

Aggie fans are hoping Quenton Jackson and Wade Taylor found their comfort level with Quenton Jackson scoring a team-high 15 points, while Wade Taylor followed suit with 14. Manny Obaseki finished with eight.

Jackson, Hassan Diarra and Ethan Henderson combined to grab 16 of the Aggies 35 rebounds. And, the trio of Jackson, Taylor and Diarra accounted for 11 assists in the game.

“That's the point we have to get to, where everybody's pulling in the same direction and comfortable with what their role is.”
- Head coach Buzz Williams

47 of the Aggies' 86 points came from the bench, including one of the few highlights of the game where Quenton Jackson threw an alley-oop from the top of the key to Aaron Cash for an emphatic dunk with two minutes remaining.

The Islanders tried to return the favor by pushing the ball in transition and regaining some momentum, but Cash would follow his dunk with a big block on the baseline and another Texas A&M defensive stand in the final 9-0 run to end the game.

Texas A&M's next game is on Wednesday, November 17 at noon when it hosts HBU. You can watch the game on SEC Network+ or listen on radio at 1620 AM.
