• I was glancing at the Texas A&M-Kent State game. I got to see some film last night. I wanted to see Haynes King, and we saw what we expected a little bit. I wanted to see more of him out of the pocket, but it made sense. Why would you showcase that early? The arm talent jumps out, and I was surprised at how strong of an arm he has. He looked like a new starter.
   
• This whole season for Texas A&M feels like you're building up to when Alabama comes to town. How are you going to get better each week? Jimbo has some film and some things to clean up before the big boys come to town.
   
• You get punchdrunk with these teams playing inferior opponents off the bat. If I see times where A&M was sloppy, why do I see Alabama not missing a beat? It shows the level of talent that Nick Saban has. Jimbo Fisher is trying to close that gap. It's not as if Bryce Young has a million more games under his belt and should look so much better than Haynes King. I don't compare A&M's opener to the rest of the SEC; I compare it to Alabama. If I'm comparing them to how Alabama looked, there is still a gap in Week One.
   
• I didn’t understand the extension for Jimbo Fisher at first. You paid him a lot of money to accomplish some things, which were to recruit really well and have a higher trajectory for Texas A&M. He has accomplished that. Right now, with the extension, they're paying him for the projection. I don't think Jimbo was unhappy or demanding this, but who is going to turn down the phone call wanting to pay you more money? I don't think this is about Jimbo Fisher being overpaid. It's about Nick Saban being underpaid. If Dabo is going to get $8 million, and Jimbo is going to get $9 million, then Saban is worth $20-25 million.
   
• Fisher’s extension is almost a preemptive strike to make sure Scott Woodward doesn't make the same phone call now that he's at LSU. He'll still make it, but Texas A&M has upped the ante. If you're Jimbo Fisher, where else in college football where would you want to be? Texas A&M is great for him. Even at Alabama, Fisher would be under Bear and Saban. LSU is a mess right now. It would be crazy to go to LSU right now, especially after flirting with them for two years and never pulling the trigger.
   
• With Ed Orgeron, he can't afford a "What the hell happened?" loss. You can't slip up against a Mississippi State. You don't want a wobbly wheel thing. Traditionally, they've recalculated under Orgeron and played extremely hard. The question is if they can do it again and if the staff is prepared for it. They were outcoached and out-physical'd by UCLA. It didn't seem very LSU-like. UCLA is a good, solid team, so there is no fault in losing to them. However, they lost by shooting themselves in the foot. The LSU-Auburn game could be very telling of Orgeron’s future.
   
• There is just a no-doubter with Alabama football. I call them 'laundry games' because, by the third quarter, my wife — who is a diehard Alabama — is doing laundry. It's crazy what they've been able to do.
   
• Big picture: I love what Texas A&M is building on. I was wowed by Kentucky. Anthony Richardson at Florida was hella fun to watch. The return of defense in the Georgia-Clemson game got my left nipple hard. I love old-school football, and every play felt like it could change the game.
