Barbara Olivieri, Mia Pante garner SEC Player of the Week honors
Coming off a big win on Saturday night over No. 9 Clemson, No. 21 Texas A&M soccer is building momentum heading into the second match of a four-game homestand as freshman Mia Pante and sophomore Barbara Olivieri both garnered SEC weekly honors following excellent offensive performances vs. the Tigers.
Pante received the SEC Freshman of the Week award after giving the Aggies an early lead over the Tigers with her first collegiate goal during Friday’s match. In addition to getting the Maroon & White squad on the board first, Pante later assisted on Olivieri’s 64th-minute goal.
Olivieri, a two-time SEC Freshman of the Week winner last year, collected her first SEC Offensive Player of the Week award after giving the Aggies’ the lead with a goal and added an assist on Kate Colvin’s 80th-minute marker. Olivieri’s strong offensive outing comes at no surprise as last season’s team leader in goals.
Both player’s contributions played a key role in lifting the Aggies over Clemson, giving the team the SEC’s only win over a top-ten team on the week.
Though the group got off to a tough start this season after facing three top-ten foes and only pulling out with one win, the Aggies are undoubtedly headed on the right track with Pante and Olivieri already in top offensive form.
The Aggies will head back out onto Ellis Field this coming Friday as they host Sam Houston.
