Key notes from G Guerrieri interview

  • You haven't seen anything yet. Sunday was a quiet crowd and a quiet exhibition. Ellis will get rocking later. As far as our exhibitions go, we know we have talent on the roster. Right now, It's just trying to get them on the same page as each other, and it has been a challenge. We have figured out some things, and we moved some people around in the second half against Baylor. We were pretty happy with how the game turned, and hopefully, we can keep it going this week against No. 1 Florida State.

  • Mia Pante is a freshman Canadian national-team member. We feel we weren’t getting enough out of her as a defender, so moving her up one line helped. She had a goal and an assist. We don't like players who are one-trick ponies. We want multi-dimensional players who can help us in whatever situation we're in.

  • If you can play three positions, you have a three-times better chance of playing. We don't have a set formation, but we have a style we play. We want the ball on the ground, and we want to attack from all angles. We can play with two, three, four, five defenders or one to four attackers.

  • Sawyer Dumond is a Southern California kid who is super chill. She doesn't get flustered by pressure being put on her. She's very smart and hits like a hammer. As a defender, she's great at winning the ball. She is also very comfortable and can attack for us. She was in the lineup on Sunday because we gave Katie Smith a couple of nights off before Thursday night's game.

  • Some would say I'm crazy by scheduling No. 1 Florida State, but we want to be playing these teams in December when it matters. Florida State is the best team in the country, and they are a bunch of professionals who represent ten different countries in their lineups. Players who have played in World Cups and national championships. They have not lost a game in regulation in over a year and a half.

  • This is the type of game we like because it's a great litmus test and will set a standard that our players need to see. We're the favorites to win the SEC, but we can't rest on what people think about us. We will improve a great deal coming out of this game, and we'll learn a lot about ourselves.
