Conspiracies, controversy and rancor: Nebraska’s bizarre 2010 visit to Kyle Field

Ten years ago No. 9 Nebraska, already on its way out of the Big 12, lost a 9-6 contest to the Aggies at Kyle Field. But the game was only part of the story as raging Pelinis, penalties, and a TexAgs twist remain part of the lore of that November evening in Aggieland.

The absurdity began on the first play of Nebraska’s third possession. Texas A&M defensive lineman Eddie Brown Jr. mauled Mike Caputo after the shotgun snap, and the center stepped hard with his left foot on the right calf of quarterback Taylor Martinez.

The already tender ankle of Martinez buckled. Caputo’s helmet sailed as he lost his balance and fell.
