Key notes from Dave Hunziker interview

  • I think this game is fun for people, getting to play some old rivals. I believe there are still some hard feelings after the teams left. Missouri was the one that hurt Oklahoma State fans more because they were together for so long. Colorado, people understood that they fit better in the Pac 12. I think people are excited about the opportunity to punch one of your old foes in the mouth.

  • I don't know if the SEC factor impacts the players very much, that's probably more for the fans. I think there is a conference pride thing with the Big 12 after people left. I think there is some pride in the fact that everyone thought the conference was going to die, but they're still kicking and just signed a new TV deal. There's definitely a conference pride aspect.

  • This 2019 Oklahoma State offense is an entirely different team than the air raid of the past. When you have the nation's leading rusher, it tends to turn that way. That's what makes Mike so good is his ability to adapt. It's a little different now with the defenses not letting you throw it over the top, so people are changing. OSU will still threaten you in the passing game, but they have a running QB and the nation's top rusher you have to account for.

  • The passing game, Spencer Sanders, is a young guy, so they had to feel it out with him. Spencer will play tonight, and I think he's healthy and ready to go. Over time, I think the passing game will get better with him, but he brings that unique athleticism and the ability to run that puts a strain on defenses. Chuba Hubbard is now more healthy than he was in the back half of the season.

  • I think the Cowboys have been better against the run than they have against the pass. Coming into the season, LB was a huge question. They were very thin, to begin with, and had some injuries. Then they turn out to have two All-Big 12 linebackers in Amen Ogbongbemiga and Malcolm Rodriguez.

  • For me, my man of the hour is Chuba Hubbard. He doesn't have to have a huge game, but he needs to be the guy that paces this offense and hits a couple of home runs on the ground.
