Key notes from Alex Sezer interview

  • I thought I'd be running track in college. One Sunday after church, I found out A&M football was having try-out camp and went even though I was planning on moving on from football due to injuries. In high school, I think I played one combined season over four years due to injuries.

  • At camp, the grass was terrible. It was really overgrown. There was a myth is I ran a four flat-out. I said I was a running back but got put on as a defensive back. The only thing they knew was I could run. At the time, they had Trey Williams and Tra Carson, so they didn't need a running back.

  • I didn't commit on the spot, but I made my decision and called Coach Sumlin on Father's Day; that's the day I committed. I was thinking I'd be running at maybe Harvard or Oklahoma, next thing I knew I was playing SEC football in Texas.

  • Around the time I started playing, everyone wanted to talk about Johnny or something about Aggie football, especially after the 11-2 2012 season. As a freshman, I was surprised to step onto the field. In practice with Johnny throwing and Evans catching, I was 5'9" trying to cover a guy like that. One game, Deshazor Everett, got ejected, so I got to play against Sam Houston. Coming back in the same game, I told him not to get ejected again because Amari Cooper was coming up the next week.

  • I'm so grateful for the Aggie Network and the welcome I got when I got to campus. I know someone paid for my scholarship. I knew when I graduated; I would have job opportunities. After I graduated, I was in the airport a lot, and it was special to connect with others over Aggie Rings and the values it represents. I met my business partner and made friendships through the Aggie Network. I appreciate everything the boosters and donors do for this community.

  • I have the opportunity to mentor the track team, which my cousin runs for. The most significant investment I can make is in life. I've been keeping up with the football team, and I like the culture. Coach Fisher has done an excellent job with this young team. I want to see two upsets these next two weekends.

Nice - I'd like to see more stories featuring The value of the Aggie network following college.

Most athletes won't be able to play at the next level, so the understanding that they will have great opportunities in the future regardless of an athletic career is a great personal benefit.
