Making Moves: 2020 Manor DE Princely Umanmielen

This month’s D&D Moving and Storage biggest mover is Manor DE Princely Umanmielen‍. After flying under the radar for much of his junior season, the 6-5, 260 pounder has emerged as one of the premier defensive prospects in the state of Texas. In our latest rankings, Princely moved from inside the top 40 to inside the top 15, and it was a move that was well deserved and may be a little past due. 

Perhaps the most impressive aspect of Umanmielen’s rise of late is just how much he’s reshaped his body in the last 3-4 months. In February, he participated in The Opening Regionals in Katy. He certainly passed the eye ball test then and performed well in all of the drill work and one-on-ones, but when I saw him on my Spring Tour in early May, it looked like he had done nothing but live in the weight room. He’s got long arms with a wide frame that’s capable of probably holding another 10-15 pounds easily. He bends well and plays with violent hands. He holds his ground in the run game thanks to a powerful lower half. As a pass rusher, he relies a lot on that power as well. He’s not a finesse guy on the edge – he wants to take the most direct line he can to the quarterback. You can view his junior highlights below:

Off the field, he’s growing as a leader and is looking forward to becoming a strong locker room presence for the Mustangs this fall.

In terms of recruiting, I think three schools are standing a cut above the rest at the moment: Texas, Oklahoma, and Texas A&M. Umanmielen has been to College Station numerous times and has a great bond with Terry Price and Mike Elko. He’s a kid that is really interested in scheme, how the defense works and how he fits into its framework. He’ll use his official visits prior to making a decision this fall.
