Texas A&M basketball assistant Isaac Chew tenders resignation

Isaac Chew has resigned from his position as an assistant coach for Billy Kennedy and the Texas A&M men's basketball program. Chew, who was in the middle of his third year with the Aggies, alerted the athletic department this morning of his decision to step down.

“Today, Assistant Coach Isaac Chew submitted his resignation to me to focus on his family,” Kennedy said in a press release issued by the athletic department. “It was a difficult decision for Isaac but it is what is best for Isaac and his family at this time. He will be missed by our coaches, staff and student-athletes and I want to thank Isaac for his service to the Aggies and wish him well as he moves forward.”

Billy Kennedy hired Chew away from Virginia Tech in 2016 after he helped the Hokies to a 20-win season and a second-round NIT appearance. The two-year stint in Blacksburg was preceded by a two seasons at Marquette, where he first paired up with Buzz Williams. Before that, Chew worked as an assistant at Missouri (2011-12), Murray State (2007-11), Indian Hills Community College (2006-07) and Avila University (2005-06).

After Kyle Keller and Rick Stansbury left College Station to become head coaches, Kennedy's familiarity and relationship with Chew at Murray State was the driving factor in bringing him on staff to fill the final coaching position available.

Chew was brought to College Station for his ability to recruit and is credited with signing Duane Wilson and Brandon Mahan for the Aggies.

“While I will miss the incredible men in this program, stepping away from basketball is what is best for my family at this time,” Chew added in the same release. “I have been so blessed to work at Texas A&M and to learn under Coach Kennedy and I am a better coach because of my time around him, my fellow assistants and the incredible student-athletes in our program.  I want to thank Coach Kennedy for believing in me and I will be cheering hard for the Aggies in the days ahead.”

Staff, either let people tell the story, or take out the trash. People playing little cryptic games with somebody's reputation isn't cool.
