Texas A&M Volleyball Defeats Pepperdine 3-0
Texas A&M started off the Texas A&M Invitational with a 3-0 win in their first match, defeating Pepperdine University, 25-20, 25-18, and 25-22.
As a sophomore setter, Camille Conner ended up leading the offense with 8 kills, 23 assists and 1 block. That put her one behind Hollann Hans who led the team in kills with a total of 9. London Austin-Roark was not far behind tallying 7 kills and 4 blocks by the end of the match.
Freshman Mallory Talbert made her debut in front of the 12th Man as a middle blocker tonight and put down 3 kills and 4 blocks.
Pepperdine has a history of being a very solid offensive team, but Aggies displayed strong defense Thursday evening. Senior captain and libero Amy Houser had 8 digs total to lead the defensive effort.
“Our defense was really balanced tonight. We had a ton of people contributing, and this past week we just worked on really going with a block and just digging balls," Houser said following the match.
Freshmen Sydney Little and Taylor Voss also contributed to the solid back row by getting 7 digs between the two of them.
"I think that was solid for our opening match," Coach Laura "Bird" Kuhn said. "I mean, a 3-0 win anytime is execution - we know it was up and down and we were sloppy on some points, but when you can put a team away [it's a success]. That’s a very good offensive team. Coming into this we knew it was going to be a battle."
The Aggies will play their next match in the Texas A&M Invitational against Nicholls at 10:00 A.M. tomorrow at Reed Arena.
