Sam & Sam: Sam Adams and his son talk A&M offer, Aggieland memories

Key notes from Sam Adams

  • For my son to get that offer was very exciting. Even though we live in Washington, he's been raised an Aggie and knows how important that offer is. I was a fan of coach Sumlin, but I'm very excited for coach Fisher. Jimbo Fisher gave us that opportunity to continue that family legacy at Texas A&M.

  • Jay Graham and I actually played in the NFL together. I called him and welcomed him to A&M and sent him film on Sam II. We talked to Jimbo and the direction of the program and wanting to raise not only good football players, but good men. It's about time we knock off Alabama again and play for an SE Championship. The offer for Sam just brought us even further into the fold, can't wait to get back down there and take Sam to a game and get to experience everything.

  • I really appreciate the love from Aggies. I love home, I was raised right by mom and dad. I have great friends in the greater Houston area and it will always be a special place for me.

  • We are excited for what's going on in Aggieland. I was back a few years ago, but not nearly as often as I'd like. It is amazing to see how much Kyle Field has changed. The talent is there on the field and people are buying into the program. We also have a coach who has won a championship, that's huge. It's great that more and more people see the traditions and know how great Aggieland is.

  • My favorite moment from my time in the Maroon & White was beating the heck out of Texas. That is the greatest rivalry in college football and I hope we do it again soon. Those Thanksgiving nights were special. I never lost a SWC game in my time at A&M, so I was truly blessed. I was surrounded by great players and great people; Greg Hill, Quentin Coryatt, R.C. Slocum and many others. But to me, there's nothing like beating Texas. And I've won a Super Bowl.

  • The number one thing I want in a program for Sam is a leader for him. I wan't him to be better then when he left home. There are a lot of great coaches and programs, but when it's all said and done, it's about learning things he can apply off the field. He can just go and play football anywhere, I want him to go somewhere and grow as well. The program and leadership is huge for me.

Key notes from Sam Adams II

  • The offer was truly amazing. Knowing that my dad played for A&M, getting the chance to possibly do that as well is a huge blessing. He has a great legacy in Aggieland, so I'm glad to have the opportunity to do it myself.

  • I haven't ever been to Aggieland, but I grew up all around it in the house. I can't wait to get to Texas A&M and visit. I can tell coach Fisher is excited about the coaching staff, the team and the players. You know he wants to win a National Championship and that speaks volume.

  • The timeline for my recruiting is still laying out my options and hopefully get some more offers. I would think towards my senior year I would look to make a decision.

  • Being better than my dad is a definite motivating factor for me. I just model myself after him in a lot of ways, and hope to follow in his footsteps. I like to model my game after Ezekiel Elliot of the Dallas Cowboys.

  • The one thing I want from a school is a good relationship with all the coaches. Those relationships are the biggest thing for me.

Sam Adams! You make us Cypress Creek and A&M alumni proud! Sam was a few years younger than me and we played pick up basketball together in high school....I can still remember the first time I saw Sam on campus...he had grown so tall and strong! Still had a smile and gave me handshake and chatted. Great guy and loved following his career.

Wonder if he is watching another Creek alumni, Chris Hutchinson and how his son, Aidan, became a big time get for Michigan! Great stuff!

Hope young Sam loves A&M and comes on down! Gig'em and good luck with whatever choice he makes.

Ray Childress and Sam Adams are my all time favorite D-linemen. Sam was like a wild grizzly bear on the field. Good to hear from Sam and his son. Sam II appears to be a chip off the ol' block. Sign him up!

Does Sam II really run a 4.4 40? If so, that's pretty good for 6'2" 200. He does seem to be pulling away from the defenders in some of his highlights.

I find it surprising that Sam Adams II has never been to Aggieland yet. Considering Sr.'s ties to Houston and his (from the write-up) obvious fondness for Texas A&M, I would have thought his dad would have taken his son there by now.

Sam II sounds excited about the offer and is looking forward to coming. Great interview. Thanks
