Key notes from Commissioner Greg Sankey interview

  • One of the reactions is people like not having to take a connecting flight to get to Birmingham. I think it's been a good week here in Atlanta, still a great amount of media attendance here. I really like having the College Football hall of Fame right here as the backdrop as the event. We had a good five days actually with the fan event we had on Sunday.

  • This was my first opportunity to be in front of the public since former commissioner Slive had passed away. He was so great at creating relationships and that was his legacy I wanted to highlight. We will always be grateful for his friendships. He also will always have the legacy of expanding the SEC, bringing in Texas A&M and Missouri.

  • I think we as a league that can continue to get better. I've really started to look into the future of cable television in regards to the SEC. In reality, people love us and what we bring as a league, but there are still some unknowns out there. The other thing is continuing to compete for National Championships. Look what Texas A&M has done in both football and women's golf in that regards in the last seven months.

  • Scott Woodward gave me a heads up on the hiring of Andrea Gaston from USC, who adds so much to this league both as a coach and a person. Scott was at LSU early in his career so he knows this league so well. He definitely understands the values of both Texas A&M and the Southeastern Conference.
