Key notes from Kendall Rogers interview

  • Texas A&M got tested a little bit against Rhode Island, but I think the big storyline coming out of the weekend is Zach DeLoach. He's a guy that when you go back and look at his bats on Tuesday against SFA, he is a really impressive player and I want to see him compete against a tougher competition. The other guy that really caught my eye is John Doxakis, he is a guy that showed some pretty electric stuff. If you’re A&M and you want to aspire to win a national championship, he has to step up and become the guy we all think he can be. He looks the part and has an explosive fastball, but he could be more consistent. He has a chance to be one of the better pitchers in the league, so I am intrigued to keep following him.

  • Last year, A&M had an offense that went to Omaha where Braden Shewmake pretty much did everything. The biggest things that A&M needs to improve on this year is having an offense that is more well-rounded. With what we've seen from the lineup so far, it looks like that's a good possibility.

  • I think Cason Sherrod can be consistent, he showed glimpses of that at the end of last year. He clearly has his stuff and is an experienced guy. Stephen Kolek is a hard nose kid, his fastball is good enough and his slider is a pretty effective weapon. He is another guy that could be Friday night guy in SEC play. He had a good first outing and now we will see how things play out as the season unfolds.

  • The Andy Cannizaro situation is disappointing. I first started hearing about all this on Monday and I found it unbelievable. You just never know about people, this is a guy that back at LSU would miss things or be late to things because he was tied up with family stuff. He spent two years as an assistant coach after being a scout and then landed a job that I would consider being a top five to eight job in college baseball. Because of all this, he has thrown that away. He has thrown away his college coaching career, at least for several years, all because of this infidelity. The general consensus among the college coaches is how unbelievable it is. It is a pretty nasty situation and I hope he can get his life back together. He needs to take a step back, reevaluate himself and see if he can put the pieces back together. To say this news was surprising would be quite the understatement.

  • The LSU Tigers, keep an eye on those guys this weekend against Texas. They were just awful this past weekend against Notre Dame and they have a handful of injuries. They struggled on the mound and looked like an absolute mess.
