The No. 15 Aggies (17-5, 6-2 SEC) made it three straight wins as they took down Vanderbilt, 91-67, in dominant fashion on the road in Nashville.

Chennedy Carter shined for the Aggies and was on from the opening tip. Carter led the Aggie offense, dropping 28 points and recording five assists and five rebounds. She got off to a hot start, scoring 11 of the team’s 17 points in the first quarter. Carter attacked the basket well, and when she wasn’t driving in, she was finding open shots or hitting her teammates for open looks.

Carter wasn’t the only player for A&M to have a big offensive day — Danni Williams (18), Khaalia Hillsman (16) and Anriel Howard (12) all finished with double-digit points to help A&M win big on the road.

The Aggies took advantage of the size differential between themselves and the Commodores and out-rebounded Vanderbilt, 43-24. They also put up 19 second-chance points. Jasmine Lumpkin led the team in rebounding with 13 boards.

Chelsea Hall, Vanderbilt’s leading scorer, finished the day with 16 points and was followed by Kayla Overbeck with 14 points and Christa Reed with 13 points.

Defensively, the Maroon and White were able to limit Vandy’s three-point attack, holding the Commodores to nine points from behind the arc.

Because the Aggies held such a big lead throughout most of the game, head coach Gary Blair was able to use more of his bench. Kayla Wells played well coming off of the bench — scoring 7 points and grabbing three rebounds.

Free throwing shooting was another strong point for A&M. The team finished 22-24 from the charity stripe, and of the six Aggies that went to the free throw line, four of them made all of their free throw attempts.

The Aggies will return to action Thursday against Tennessee for a rematch on the road. The last time the two teams faced off, A&M defeated Tennessee, 79-76, in overtime at Reed Arena. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on the SEC Network.
