After defeating Texas Tech by 34 points on Sunday, the Aggie Women’s Basketball team was hoping to carry its momentum forward against the Prairie View A&M Lady Panthers, and that it did. The Ags defeated the Lady Panthers, 98-70, and never lost the lead.

Four A&M players scored in the double-digits tonight. Khaalia Hillsman had a dominant game, scoring 20 points and going 8-12 from the field and 4-5 from the free throw line. Danni Williams had 15 points, shooting 3-6 from beyond the arc. Jasmine Lumpkin had 13 points, and Chennedy Carter ended the game with 12. However, every member of the squad registered at least 3 points, and Anriel Howard ended the night with 11 total rebounds.

Hillsman believed better shot selection lead to her having such a great night.

“This game I really focused on not taking jump hooks, because those aren’t falling for me right now,” she said.

Hillsman also gave credit to Chennedy Carter for setting her up with some passes, saying, “Chennedy did a great job. She gave me great passes… but you know, that’s what she does.”

The Ags started a little slow and let the Lady Panthers hang around a little longer than Hillsman liked.

“We definitely started slower than we are supposed to," she said. "Sometimes we play down to our opponents, and that’s not how we want to come out.”

Coach Blair also had some thoughts on the way the ladies played tonight, saying “it got a little bit sloppy” when his bench players came in with such a big lead, but also stating that “it was getting sloppy with my first group in their early (as well).”

The Aggies sent the Lady Panthers to the free throw line 21 times, but shot 32 free throws themselves. Overall it was not the prettiest game to watch, but the Ags held a good lead for most of it and came away with a win.

The Aggies are back in action tomorrow night, as they take on Rice at 7:00pm at Reed Arena.
