Aggies Women's Hoops suffers first loss of season to Oregon, 83-68

Due to numerous missed layups by the Aggies and hot shooting from beyond the three-point line by the Ducks, Texas A&M suffered its first loss of the season to Oregon on Thursday night, 83-68.

The two teams were neck and neck all game long, but the Aggies just couldn’t get the job done against the taller, longer team in yellow and green.

The Aggies came out ready to play in the first quarter, jumping to a quick 18-13 lead with baskets by Chennedy Carter, Jasmine Lumpkin and Danni Williams.

“I think we did a great job. They just got it going in the second half. They play a strong transition game, and we have to focus more on the defensive end,” said Chennedy Carter. 

Going into the the half, A&M still lead 34-28 after Anriel Howard, Carter, Khaalia Hillsman and Williams all scored baskets at the end of the third. 

However, in third quarter the pace of the game changed after Oregon three baskets from distance and took the lead. Entering the fourth quarter, Williams, Lumpkin and Howard all had a basket each. Carter shot two three-pointers back to back to get the crowd on their feet, but it simply wasn’t enough. The Aggies couldn’t seem to make a comeback. 

Carter was efficient in the contest, scoring 23 points. Williams followed with 17.

“The better team was Oregon. They brought back five starters, but you cannot win a ballgame without an inside game. We can’t have seven turnovers,” said Coach Blair. “We will learn from this.”

The Aggies will be back in action on Wednesday night at 6 p.m. against Little Rock.
