Johnny Manziel signs 2-year CFL contract with Hamilton Tiger-Cats
#ComebackSZN is officially heading north of the border.
Former Texas A&M quarterback and 2012 Heisman Memorial Trophy Winner, Johnny Manziel, announced today that he has signed a two-year contract with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League.
The team later confirmed the news.
Manziel, who we last saw on the field in The Spring League, hasn't played a full season of professional football since 2015 when he was a member of the Cleveland Browns. During his brief stint with Browns, Johnny Football went 2-6 as a starter, completing 57-percent of his passes while throwing for seven touchdowns as well as seven interceptions. He is also the last starting quarterback to win a game for the Browns on a Sunday despite not being with the team for the last two seasons.
Johnny talked briefly from an undisclosed location on the Canadian border about the signing and his new partnership with Barstool Sports:
The Hamilton Tiger-Cats are the former CFL team of another Aggie quarterback, Stephen McGee. McGee had a brief stint with the Ti-Cats in 2013 as a backup quarterback. Rumor has it he even slept in the locker room some nights during his time with the team.
Manziel will have a familiar face as a head coach in former SMU Mustangs coach, June Jones. Jones was a first-hand witness to the phenomenon that became known as "Johnny Football" in 2012 when the Aggies routed the Mustangs, 48-3 in Dallas.
The Tiger-Cats begin their 2018 campaign on June 16th against the Calgary Stampeders in Calgary. Click here to see their full schedule.
