TexAgs Top 118: Updated Texas Class of 2018 Recruiting Rankings

June 1, 2017

This ranking adjustment does not see as many moves as last month’s, but there are some significant changes and a few fresh faces.

The top 10 remains the same as last month, but there was some movement. Wide receiver Jalen Preston and cornerback Anthony Cook keep their spots at No. 1 and No. 2, but the changes begin at No. 3. Tight end Mustapha Muhammad, safety BJ Foster (pictured above) and defensive end Max Wright have moved ahead of defensive tackle Keondre Coburn, and Leon O’Neal and DeMarvion Overshown have jumped in front of of Al’Vonte Woodard. Texas commit Caden Sterns rounds out the top 10 and is the fourth safety in the group.

The biggest move on the list comes from Chasen Hines, who moves up 27 spots from No. 51 to No. 24. His strength and power are well-known, but his footwork has shown improvement. He has also worked hard to get in better shape this spring and has had impressive performances at both the Under Armour camp in Dallas and – most recently – at the ETSN Combine in Tyler.

Oklahoma pledge Starrland Baldwin makes his debut at No. 59. The Cy Falls cornerback has been nothing short of impressive on the 7-on-7 circuit with Fast 7 out of Houston. The 5-10, 170-pound defender may be skinny, but he is tough and has some nice length.

TexAgs Cy Springs athlete Taye Barber makes his first appearance on the list at No. 63. The electric playmaker projects as a slot receiver in college.
Joining Baldwin as a new addition is Cy Springs athlete Taye Barber. He arrives at No. 63. He projects as a slot receiver and is one of the more electric guys in the 2018 class. At 5-10, 175-pounds, he has been a two-way standout at Cy Springs and has had a strong showing on the 7-on-7 circuit. He counts Clemson and Stanford among his more recent offers.

Overall, the 2018 class is proving to have extraordinary depth in the mid-to-low four-star range of prospects. An all-time high of 51 players have been graded at 90 or better (four-stars). Of those 51, 20 players have already given a verbal commitment to a school eight months before signing day. Of the top 100 prospects on the latest TexAgs recruiting list, 41 have already announced their college choice.
