Aggie softball rallies late, comes back to defeat Texas State, 3-1
Following the take down of Texas Southern yesterday, 14-0, in the NCAA Regional Tournament opener, No. 9 A&M extended their weekend record to 2-0 with a late comeback victory over Texas State, 3-1.
The Aggies got off to a shaky start, in the top of the first the Bobcats loaded the bases and scored their only run of the day in the top of the first inning on a Corrina Liscano RBI-walk. Texas State would hold that lead until the bottom of the fifth inning.
The Aggies finally got the ball rolling and picked up the pace in the bottom of the fifth inning when Keeli Milligan singled up the middle. Kristen Cuyos picked her teammate up, delivering a two out RBI-single to left, scoring Milligan from third and tying the game at one a piece.
That tie would only last a half inning however.
Sarah Hudek stepped up to the plate ready to work in the bottom of the sixth, after doubling down the right field line. Keeli Milligan would double her home later in the inning, giving A&M the lead, 2-1.
Kaitlyn Alderink got her piece of action, capping off the scoring when she singled to shortstop, and scored Milligan, making the score 3-1.
"I am proud of our ball club, I think we played very well today. We are where we need to be and did a nice job under pressure." Coach Jo Evans said.
The Aggies will be back in action tomorrow, Sunday, May 21 in the Regional Final at 1:30 p.m. from the Aggie Softball Complex. The opponent has yet to be determined.
