Aggie Softball's winning streak ends with loss to Houston Cougars, 1-0
After jumping to No. 5 in the rankings and defeating every opponent at the Mary Nutter Classic, including top-ranked Florida State, Texas A&M finally fell to the Houston Cougars, ending a 15-game winning streak.
The Cougars got an early advantage scoring their only run of the game in the top of the third inning. With runners on the corners, Houston pitcher Savannah Heebner singled to right field, driving in one and posting Houston to a 1-0 lead.
SEC Pitcher of the Week Samantha Show stepped in the circle to relieve the Ags' Trinity Harrington in the fifth and held the Cougars scoreless the rest of the way.
A&M's best chance to score came in the bottom of the sixth, but the Aggies fell short. After a double from Kaitlyn Alderink and back-to-back walks from Tori Vidales and Ashley Walters, the bases were loaded for Sarah Hudek. However, after a Houston pitching change, Hudek struck out swinging. A&M plated no runs in the seventh and lost, 1-0.
Head Coach Jo Evans spoke on the first loss of the season, saying, “Some nights you’re going to fall short, and you’re not gonna get that timely hit. We’re going to have to deal with this. We don’t want to lose, especially at home. It doesn’t feel good to lose. Losing is awful, and nobody likes it but we’re going to have to manage this loss and get right back after it this weekend.”
The Aggies will be back in action this weekend, taking on UTSA, Georgetown, and Prairie View A&M in the Texas A&M Invite.
